This pic was in H&H yesterday, but we just wanted to highlight a little bit of interior design mastery: having the imagination to take these Arne Jacobsen Mid-C Modern Swan chairs which are typically covered in bright fabrics and going with worn, brown leather instead. Very nice.
These chairs are 50's vintage from a new cafe at the Carlton Hotel called Country. It was designed by David Rockwell, so kudos go to him (or to the poor, underpaid designer who did all the work).

Love that remark: (or to the poor, underpaid designer who did all the work). I can't tell you how many firms I've worked for where the designers do 90% of the work and the principal is taking the bows and compliments. I was let go from my last position as senior designer because I used the words "we" and "I" instead of letting the principal take all the kudos for the work.
Hey, just keep in mind those principals pay the bills, pay the health insurance, sweat the payroll, do the marketing, drum up the business...
But yes, it's important to share the credit.
P2 - good point. They did their share as far as paying the overhead and drumming up business. No insurance or benefits though. Not in my case, anyway. But I'm still smarting from being let go :)Oh well.
BTW, love the Arne chairs in leather.
Well, anne, THEY were obvious idiots for letting YOU go! :)
Ah, justification! I love that. Thank you p2.
Hey, is anyone going to the Pier Show this weekend? I want to go and it'd be nice to meet up with others.
This design is a point for point rip off of Ilsa Crawford's design for the Soho House in the meat packing district. The colors, the finishes, the feel, the chesterfields, the bar even the bar stools. All of it. I wonder if you can press charges for that? But really it is brazen.
Also, I see vintage swan chairs in leather a lot in Europe. I wonder if they were not produced as often in the states.
i always see vintage egg chairs in leather in print, the patina of the leather is beautiful and the sculptural quality of the chair is highlighted. the same can be said about the swan chairs in this case.
retromodern has the swan and the egg chairs in leather
I don't see what the big deal is. Vintage Swan chairs are often in precisely this "worn brown leather".
I really like what they have done ... nice twist.
You can get the Egg & Swan chairs covered in leather at:

I think they are around $999
