Look! Ann Reupholsters a Dux Chair

Re-Dux. Reader Ann has sent us a slideshow of her experience transforming a free chair from Craigslist into the sophisticated and stylish piece you now see...

What a lot of work dealing with that old, disintegrating foam is a job in itself! We think the pumpkin-hued Herman Miller fabric you chose works really well! Ann admits on her blog that she'll wait awhile before tackling another upholstery project. Check out the slideshow to see all the pics. Well done!

This is fantastic. I would buy this chair. In fact, I WANT to buy this chair!! I'd be very interested to know how many hours she spent working on this project and the total cost. Thanks for such an inspiring post!

Anne - you're a better woman than I am! Anyone want to suggest a reupholsterer? I have 2 chairs that I'd like to have redone. I choked when I saw "The Furniture Joints" estimate. I have an estimate from Dr. Sofa for 1/3 the price of TFJ. Anyone ever used Dr. Sofa or have another place they love? Thanks!!!

how inspiring! what an awesome piece she now has... and i'm sure it means even more because her own blood, sweat and tears went into restoring it. i bet that chair will hang around for a very long time.

A year or so ago, I thought to myself, "reupholstering couldn't be that difficult". THEN I found a fantastic chair to reupholster and discovered just how seriously challenging it can be!

Anne, you did a fantastic job on this Dux! Impressive indeed!

I haven't used Dr. Sofa, but I know 2 friends that have and were happy with the results. They never responded to my emails for an estimate (after they told me on the phone to send them photos).

This gets the Mid-C Frank seal of approval -- but no surprise there, eh!?!

I had 2 dux chairs reupholstered by Lore (from recommmendation here on AT -- see 'services') -- they were great, and wonderful to deal with! I bought my own fabric (such a bargain), and they were happy to work with it. See result here:

Hmm -- just checked out the other reviews on Lore -- seems it's a love or hate thing! Well I was happy . . .

I Love Upstate, where are you? I found an upholsterer in Shandaken, if you (or the chairs) are anywhere near there.

Thanks, everyone, for your kind comments about my upholstery job on the chair!

Now, to answer some of your questions. Several of you asked how long it took to complete and the truth is that I don't know. Maybe 20 hours? That is a rough estimate. Also, the total cost came in at about a hundred bucks. It would have been much less but I had to replace all the foam. We got the fabric from winterbeachmodern.com and were really happy with the fabric and the service. So if you have a project you'd like to tackle, I'd recommend giving them a look.

Again, thanks for all the nice things y'all said about my chair.
