Dear AT,
I'm curious if anyone has encountered this couch from Target.
It's sort of a cheapy version of Crate & Barrel's petrie couch.
I'm specifically worried about the "microfiber" upholstery.
I don't want it to feel like cheap suede, and as it is not available in stores, so I can't exactly go scope it out for myself. Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Thanks! Laura

I was considering it for a time, but 'microfiber' is so nonspecific. Plus, I was concerned with the quality.
If you do go with the sofa, go to Walmart.com. The same sofa is listed on their website for MUCH cheaper.

Also, consider this sofa from Macy's. I just purchased it and it is an excellent and affordable alternative.

I swear half the people on AT own the corona sofa. As do I....
We went with the pear green sofa and 2 dark brown chairs.
It's really comfy, and the price isn't bad at all. The cloth is slightly "rough" but i find it to be a good thing, is just has a nice visual texture and looks like it might wear better.
plus it cleans up nicely, since my wife dropped a fork with chocolate from a boston cream pie on the couch 7 hours after it was delivered... the covers on the cushions off come nicely for easy clean up, can't even tell where she did it.

Lovely sofa - I actually just ordered it in espresso. I sat in it at the showroom ( they had the one in Pear Green) and it is very comfortable: wide, plus seats, angled backrest.
And even thought it's plush it doesn't lose it's clean lines.

I agree, jmorey. I love the texture. I think it adds to the visual appeal.

Is the one from Target different from the one from Macy's? (and is the Walmart one different from the Target?)
Ooh! Looks like the Macy's one just went on sale. Last night it was still $899.

The Target and Walmart sofas only vary by color, I believe.
The Macy's sofa varies greatly from the Target sofa.

yes the target/walmart ones vary a lot from the one at Macy's, but the poster above myself, and I wanted to suggest it for the similar tufted modern style, even though they are obvious differences.
I just don't think quality sofa when i think of target, and i would never think of a sofa from walmart being quality. Macys actually sells a lot of furniture and some of their stores have large furniture galleries, whereas target and walmart, their furntiture is just a side thought.
Also, the one from Macy's goes on and off sale about every 5 days. I'm not joking, when i talked to our saleswoman, she explained how the system worked, and how often it goes up and down. Along with that, i think the in store price was slightly cheaper then the online sale price, at least when i bought it. Plus, she told us when it was going to be having another additional 10% and waiting to put our order in for us. Pretty much saved the shipping charges, since you have to have it shipped no matter if you live near that store or not. Ours shipped from Ohio, and we live in Indiana.

right now the corona sofa that everyone is talking about is only $699, so its less expensive than the target one... and on macys.com it was rated 5/5 stars with rave reviews. i've been eyeing it online too, and every other time i look its on sale!
has anyone seen the margarette sofa from macys? if so how is that?

also... online it doesn't say, but does anyone know what the corona frame and cushions are made of???

I have the margaret sofa from Macy's, Erin...I really like it. We got it in chocolate brown. It doesn't have the very clean lines like the corona because the back cushions are like large, large pillows. It's not overly fluffy at all though, really comfortable and really good quality.

I CAN BARELY READ THE COMMENTS AS THE SIDE NAVIGATION BAR IS OVER THE CENTER!!!!! This keeps happening. Am I the only one?
I will also chime in as someone how has a Corona loveseat in Pear. AND LOVE IT. (Though I wish the legs were in a blond wood).

I still like the one from Room and Board.. despite it being double the cost of the Macy's one.. T_T

erinpearce- the frame of the corona is kiln dried wood (same for all macy's furniture if i remember correctly)
the cushions (according to this paper in front of me) is cased, high resilient, polyurethane foam and hypo-allergenic polyester filling for luxurious cushioning.
i took the cushion apart already because of the chocolate and wife thing, and it looked like material batting (is that a correct word? i don't sew) and then a high-density foam on the inside.
also the sides and backs of the sofa and chairs are solid, it's not just material stretched over an open area. it has a framing over and and then a light padding to the sides.
here's my living room right now. i know the second picture is plain, we usually have stuff on the coffee table and we need something above the sofa.

I also sat on the margaret. that and the corona were the two i went to see. i really liked the blue and brown combo. i wasn't as big of a fan of the material. the display had a bunch of snags on the sides of the sofa already, and i just personally didn't like the feel of it. Plus, having a very short dog, one who wants to jump at the furniture, even though he isn't allowed, anything that snags easy is out. I figured if it was already snagged there, it wouldn't last with us. the corona was holding up well (its that textured fabric) even with all the use.
one thing, be gentle with the corona buttons. i snagged one with my back as i shifted, and i think i loosened it up a bit already. i'm just antsy when i sit.

I've got a query for you Corona-fans: Was the sofa completely assembled when it arrived? My door will only accommodate a width of about 78.5 inches, and the Corona is 81.5"! Thanks in advance.
view kushkush's profile
everything was assembled except it didn't have it's legs on, which those are about 9" of the height. Plus the delivery guys will have it up and in your apartment pretty fast. They bring it in, set it up, and take all the packaging and boxes back with them.

jmorey, thanks so much for all that info! we've got a dog and a baby boy so i need something that will hold up. good to know its made well!
view erinpearce's profile
i hope it holds up well, i really don't want to buy furniture again anytime soon.
if you have a baby i would check into the extra warranty. we didn't go with it, but i think for all 3 pieces it would have been $150 or so. If anything gets on it, you call them, and they clean it. If they can't clean it they replace it. If you don't use it in the 7 years, they give you the money back. It sounds like a great plan, I just didn't see myself actually calling them to clean it, not knowing how long it would take and all that.

Does anyone have the Wal Mart Plaza Sofa (ChiAdam do you?). I really like the price of $499 at Wal Mart and never thought of buying a sofa from there, but I'm not sure about the quality.

jmorey -- thanks for all the info. i don't think it will fit through my door, but i'll still go to macy's for a look-see-sit.
