NY Good Questions: Where Can I Find a Similar Sectional Sofa?

4.16couch.jpgDear AT,

I am seeking a sectional sofa like this one, in brown or black.

This one is distributed by a company called At Home USA, which sells to a variety of somewhat shady internet furniture stores and retails for around $2,500...

It is made in China, but the leather is actually very good quality.

I contacted At Home USA, and they also seemed shady, and would not disclose the name of the manufacturer.

I viewed and sat on it in white this weekend at a small (again, somewhat shady) furniture place in the Village.

It was quite comfortable, and I love its looks and lines.

However, I would love to find an identical or similar style from a more reputable manufacturer and retailer.

I would love for it to be at a similar price point, no more than $3,000. Any ideas?

Thanks! Louise

Would this work? Not black or brown and not leather but similar lines.

This one comes in a Cocoa (brown): http://www.bobbyberkhome.com/product/seating/176/bobby-berk-home-soho-sectional,-sofa,-chair.html

I also second the one mdeathstar suggested.

Ikea makes a somewhat similar one in chocolate brown leather.

What's so "shady" about these places? You should just buy it from the place in the Village. They have it, you like it... ?

similar lines (without the tufting) at bloomingdales:

it's $2800 total now, but they often run sales, so worth keeping an eye on.

Natuzzi has a sectional quite like that. The price depends on the quality of leather you choose, but I'm sure you'll get it as low as 2500$

What makes this Internet site "shady":

I need to know these things.

I am curious to see the "sketchy" website that carries the one above.

I will try to address some of the questions/ comments. Laflat.com has terrible reviews all over the internet. Just google "laflat.com reviews" and you will see why I do not want to order from them.

The store in the Village only had the sofa in white, and would need to order the brown or black one from At Home USA, the sole distributor of the sofa . I called At Home USA to find out who manufactures the sofa and whether they had it in stock in black or brown. They were very rude, and would not tell me who manufactures the piece. I asked if it was made in China, and they would not answer (which means "yes"). I am OK with it being made in China, but why not just admit it? They do not have it in stock in black or brown, and expect more shipments in "around 6 weeks". Based on the delivery reviews from laflat.com, who knows if 6 weeks is even accurate. Overall, I got an overall shady impression of At Home USA, and I think that they would be less than accommodating if there was a problem with the product.

Here's another option.

Now I'm obsessed with finding you the right item :)

mdeathstar, I love that you are obsessed! I can use all the help I can get. : )

The item on overstock looks like a nice option, but I need the chaise to be on the other side. Also, I am somewhat hesitant to buy a sofa online without sitting on it to test out comfort. I go to NY regularly, so checking out items there is no problem.

While on that site, I did see this one, but it is vinyl (not leather). Vinyl is a no no.

I am open to fabric (though I would prefer leather), but I think that you have keyed into some of the design elements - metal legs, clean lines, relatively low profile modern.

Thanks to you and everyone else making suggestions!

Of all the items I still like the Carter the best (perhaps because I want to buy it for my ownself).

This is comfortable but I'm not in love with it.

For what it's worth I am trying to sell my white leather sofa because the leather picks up all sorts of scratches from our 2 cats. So if you go the leather route make sure it is a sturdy leather!

mdeathstar, thanks for all of your suggestions, and thanks to everyone else too. I went to Gus Modern and tried out the Carter sectional today. I loved the lines and the comfort, but was not in love with the color choices. Most of the darker colors were in the grey rather than the brown family.

I also went to Bobby Berk Home, but the store was tiny, and they did not have the sectional there. The store was mostly linens, with a couple pieces of furniture. Definitely not worth trying to find it on tiny Crosby street.

So my search continues! : )

I do like some of the others mdeathstar suggested, but they are only at online retailers. I really need to try out a sofa before buying it.

Too bad galinphilly. I was also hoping to stay in the brown family but will be going grey with the Carter. It's just too pretty to pass up. Good luck with the rest of your search!

Mdeathstar, I also decided to go with the Carter. It is beautiful. Originally, I really liked the Ink color, but the dark grey in that has dark blue undertones (hence the name "ink") and navy is not really a favorite decorating color. So I decided on the Storm color, which is grey with green undertones. Which color are you getting?
