Patrik Swivel Chair

3-21--ikea.jpg

The Patrik was designed for IKEA by Mia Gammelgaard, and it may be on it's way to becoming another IKEA classic (BTW We always wondered where the first Patrick was. Now we know.)

After posting our own question in November, which asked readers to recommend a good second task chair for our office, we looked through all the answers and chose this one, recommended by Ed.

With bold good looks, an adjustable seat, a solid caster system, nubby bright fabric and a price tag of only $149, the Patrik is a stand out from IKEA's other cushioned task chairs and is hard for any other store to beat.

Problems? The casters are a little slow to turn (there don't move super freely) and the seat, while soft, could have used a little more foam. Great for shorter sits, we would probably add a cushion for long sits. But then that's why it's a secondary chair. (Thanks, Ed!)

I sit in a Patrik chair for 5-10 hours daily, and I think it's great. I added a pillow at the back, and it works like a gem. It's the best office chair I've had. My Patrik and I had a beautiful bonding experience on the LIRR on it's trip from ikea to Manhattan...I honestly don't know how I made it home, and probably wouldn't have without the kindness of a few strangers...but it was definitely worth it.

One big problem I have with Ikea that I am surprised none of your intrepid readers (or the AT team!) has picked up on as creative people is that they blatantly ripoff many of their designs from Italian manufacturers. This is the case here but they've also done it with Cappellini designs etc.

A company this size should be paying their designers to come up with unique and new designs not just ripping off small design led companies. They can afford it and I think its bad karma to rip off the little guys.

Wow, I'm surprised so many people liked this chair. I sat in one the one time I've been to Ikea and found it immediately uncomfortable. Might be just me though, and my big hips. Made me feel a little trapped or something.

Yes, I thought I saw it go for $149 in Jan and I guess it was their big sale but then Feb. rolled in and it's now $179. I love the design, color and the comfort of the chair and my bf and I was excited to get it regardless of the bump in the price. We went to the first location and it was "temporarily out of stock," so we head on over to the other nearest Ikea store and found out that we had one of the last four in that store. We were excited and knew that our trip had paid off. Brought it home and assembled it very easily, but the only problem that we had was with the fabric of the chair. It smells like a smoker's chair. My bf is currently trying to Febreeze it and is letting the chair soak in the sun to let it dry. I was very disappointed and was wondering if anyone out there is facing the same problem with the smell.

Joesan, Almost everything we buy is a copy , womens clothes when they have the big showings the audience is full of other design houses people to copy so they can make one for there mass stores. Besides copying someone else design is the best way to let them know they have a hit.
