Home Hero Fire Extinguisher

10.12.home_hero.jpg

Stylish safety. This beauty pictured up top is actually a fire extinguisher, made by HomeHero. The white body and curvy form make this a real hit with us...

HomeHero products are sold only at Home Depot, and this extinguisher runs about $30. HomeHero also makes an equally smart and stylish 2-in-1 Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm.

We thought we'd seen good-looking safety equipment before here and here, but HomeHero takes the cake.

I saw this in the new issue of Dwell, and realized my existing (ugly) fire extinguisher is still in its box...on a shelf...in the pantry. I need one of these. My life is at stake!

sigh. i got an email last week telling me that this was at my local home depot. i went over there & looked everywhere, but they didn't have it. the home depot web site doesn't acknowledge its existence, either. i think they sent the emails the same day they shipped the fire extinguishers. i suppose i'll go back in a week or so to see if they've arrived yet.

I think someone made a good comment on this type of thing in the past: isn't the reason the fire extinguisher is bright and ugly is so that you can quickly see it in an emergency?

I hope this actually appears in stores soon. My dad is a firefighter and he thought this was cool- but yes, it might not be as easy to find in an emergency.

Just purchased two at my local Home Despot.(Pittsburgh) 26USD with tax. I purchased one for my car and one for my kitchen. At least now I can still have my fire extinguisher next the stove without it being so glaring. The opposite issue of most. I thought having the extinguisher right at the cooking source was more important than visibilty across the room. Its been an eyesore for over a year. Now the older red one can reside at the other edge of the kitchen for when we grill. I haven't lost anything other than an eybrow or two, so far.

oh it is taller than I expected and very sexy.

I found the HomeHero was in the Electric section with smoke detectors.

Oh! Great to know! I came so close to burning down my kitchen yesterday morning and my first thought was that I'm too forgetful to not have a fire extinguisher.

It beats the "(ugly) fire extinguisher is still in its box...on a shelf...in the pantry." It looks like it's large enough to actually put out a small fire. Just remember to keep a lid around to smother any small grease fires that may flare up and not to spread the fire with an extinguisher.

I just got back from the National IDSA (Industrial Designers of America) and this product won the IDEA Gold award in the consumer products category. It's a well designed product that obviously addresses an important issue.

I searched and searched for these on Home Depot website and couldn't locate them. But I snagged them at my local store in Hollywood-- I bought 6 of them for a client and blogged about them.

The guy who helped me find them told me they were selling like hotcakes but he had an issue with their design. He said they blend in so well in your decor, you might not find them in an emergency.
