Come Up and See My Art Contest: Editor's Entry

1-10-cuba1.jpg

We have begun to get submissions for the Contest, but we wanted to prime the pump some more by showing off some stuff we really like in our own house. This is our bathroom in the house we have on Long Island. The photograph is by John Berg, an architect and friend, who took a number of beautiful photographs in Cuba last year with his digital camera. This one is of an empty swimming pool that is shaped like a piano at an abandoned estate on the coast.

Notice particularly how the vibrant blue of the pool makes the room pop and brings out the blue tones in the soft, lavender paint color. We like to do cool colors in bathrooms as it matches the qualities of water. We think this pool picture is perfect here. John does sell his prints (in different sizes) for between $100-$200, and you can reach him at John@bergdesignarchitects.com.

GREAT shot, John!

For any other enthusiasts of the haunting imagery of vacant swimming pools, the Paul Kopeikin Gallery in LA offers J. Bennett Fitts' "No Lifeguard on Duty" color photography, from January 7 - February 4, 2006.

That's beautiful! But now that's making think that bathtubs should be made in those swimming pool colors. No. Not as some kind of custom thing, but as a default. Wouldn't that be a gas? And no, not where the sink and toilet match it. Just the tub. The sink should be different from the tub, I think.

Unfortunately, we haven't gotten around to renovating the bathroom yet -- and our tub IS that color.

Trust me, it's not pretty.

Is there any special framing consideration for art hanging in a bathroom? We were thinking of photos in ours but I wasn't sure b/c of the humidity.
