Come Up and See My Art Contest: Editor's Entry

1-13-artworkeditor.jpg

Out in LA we're still looking for submissions, so if you have nice art on your walls and you live out West, send Alec some pics and get into the contest.

This pic is ours in a room we finished last summer. The wall color is snootily called "Hampton Green" by Benjamin Moore, but we love it, and the artwork is by ourselves and part of a squiggle series that explored the male and female nether shapes. Seems appropriate above a bed. We were actually inspired by some rather elegant graffitti we saw on the LIRR and took it from there.

We like how the white frames and strong graffic looks pops off of the green wall.

On other notes, the left lamp is Crate and Barrel (Noguchi Knockoff), the right alabast lamp is Restoration Hardware, the cherry side table is Scott Jordan, the duvet cover Ikea and the bright pillow Inhabit.

Maxwell, I spy what can only be a small piece of clutter between the lamp and the plant. You should be ashamed.

Looks like one solitary seashell, which I think you're allowed to have.

nice room! great art and what a beautiful color on the walls.

when i saw the squiggles on the wall i thought that another interesting way to display them would be to put them on a picture rail, like the ones they have in room & board. we just did a project like this in our bathroom on a natural steel rod with black and white photography and the effect is really nice. just a thought for this dreamy hamptons getaway.

I love the blinds! I know I should be looking at the art, which is quite nice as well, but can you tell me about your simple, beautiful blinds?

I would love to send in some pics being from the West, but I'm having my place totally repainted (they finished the living room yesterday and are on to the dining room now) and have taken down my art! I have some very special monotypes made by a mentor of mine, the late Dr. Gordon Gilkey, that I would have liked to share. Alas, the contest will be over before I'm ready! Oh well... Love your art, Maxwell!

I love the fact that you created the art yourselves.

Also like the male/female theme and the simple, bold, black lines set against clean, crisp, white background and frames. Wonder if series would have even more visual impact if set in slightly larger frames

really like those "male and female nether shapes" -- i like the concept and i like the b/w contrast.

i've heard people into feng shei (sp?) say that what you place over your head when you sleep can affect your dreams. hmmmm....care to share any of your dreams? (just kidding)

Maxwell - I love artwork, the wall color, the furnishing, and the windows shades! Everything works beautifully together. Very refreshing and relaxing in a fun and casual way.

Can you please tell us more about your simple but beautiful window shades?

I think I just painted my office walls a similar color. Mine was "Rejuvenation" by Behr. Love it, and love the bedroom.
