Hello, I'm a daily reader of AT and thought I would FINALLY enter a contest. The artist of the both the images is Vik Muniz, but I'd rather not list the price of the pieces. I live in Manhattan in the East Village. THANKS!!!!! John O.

Yeah, Vik Muniz! I'm a HUGE fan of the work. I also like how you've got them displayed: casually leaning along with objects that seem to have evolved into that arrangement rather than "placed" there, but nice nonetheless.
This is kind of the opposite of the entry from New Jersey yesterday, where the work was dispersed throughout the apartment on large, bare walls.
The works are certainly impressive. I'd have to see more of the space to comment on the overall design.
I love Muniz' work, and I'm completely envious of your Muniz MIGRANT MOTHER. His string series of Old Master works is my favorite.
There was a lot of discussion in one of the threads last week about mounting floating shelves and not overloading them. Just curious how are your shelves mounted to the wall since you seem to have loaded especially the top one with a lot of heavy books?
Great artwork, I really like how it's displayed with that casual perfection that I can never seem to get right.
Now how the heck are those shelves staying up with all that stuff on them?
JimKK: did you ever make that tile backsplash?
John O: love the arrangement. Are those books that you use often, or are they more of a display? And I too am curious about how those shelves stay up.
sarajane,
I think it was someone else who was actually going ahead with the tile backsplash, maybe Priya? I just mentioned it was on "my list" of projects which I'll probably never get to ;-( although I think it is doable.
really great collection. this arrangement certainly has a cozy, organic appeal. however, as someone who works in a museum (and is a muniz fan)-the display tactics disturb me. partially obscuring the Migrant Mother, leaning one work against the other (please tell me the smaller piece is actually resting on the mirror and not the larger image?), keeping work on the floor where it might be accidentally kicked, underneath a precarious pile of books and in close proximity to open flame? enough to make a conservator shudder.
keeks-- i second that. this is just too... well, i guess if he can afford the works, he can afford the insurance too.
I know it's Muniz, but maybe do to the more upbeat colors in the room made me think of Lichtenstein. Very nice!
this is perfect!
LOVE LOVE LOVE that Muniz/Dorothea Lange piece. Ohmigod LOVE it.
Hmmm, wonder why THAT piece did not spark a firestorm of comment about how "appropriation" in the art world can sometimes lessen a piece's artistic merit. ;)
