Artist: Pablo Suepat
Contact: pablosuepat@aol.com
Price: 3,000 US$

Pitch:
Pablo Sueat's painting works like a mirror in my living room. Since it is white on white, it enhances the height of the ceiling and doubles the volume of the room. My guests are always very attracted by it and generally they perceive it as a huge octopus with huge suction cups.

Just wanted to say I voted 'Awesome', even though I would not have this in my apartment (not my style). My eyes bugged out when I saw the pricetag, but was happy because artists need money to live. Some day I hope that I can put aside my need to find a bargain and honestly contribute to supporting an artist.

Some unsolicated advice...

IDEAS!!!

1) Add rug to floor. White Shag would be neat. It would complement the texture of the art.

2) Install the art lower on the wall, centered, and turn it horizantally (since I don't think it matters with this piece). That way, when you stand back, the painting appears the length of the table.

3) If you can paint (not sure if you're allowed if rent?), would you consider painting the wall behind the art in red? You could even just paint a big red box on the wall and center the art inside of the boxed in area where you've painted.

4) Move the bookcase from the corner and center it more in the middle of your DR space or move it to another location completely and put your curio cabinet there, instead.

5)Style your bookcase differently, it's too cluttered. Maybe you can paint the back of the bookcase in red or something? Stack some of the books in neat piles, and use bookends of the standing books. When styling a bookcase, style it in a zig zag formation. The top shelf should have something space heavy on the left side, and the 2nd shelf can have something "heavy" on the right side. Continue this all the way down. Or, store the books someplace else and buy a nice buffet style piece - try CB2, West Elm, IKEA. Add a large mirror over the buffet.

6)You need a light fixture over your table. It looks very lonely without out.

7)If you decide to remove the bookcase and add a buffet, put the buffet on the same wall as your art, hang a large mirror over it, and move the art to the wall where the bookcase currently is. Or vice versa on the floor plan. I don't know much about the egress and ingress in your space so it's hard to tell you.

That's all I can think of for now...

I like that white cabinet as well. I've been salivating over these at west elm, but I don't have room in my bathroom.

These modular pieces are nice too:

I like the art - I agree that it would look even more dramatic against a colored wall - red would be cool, but you don't even need to go that far.

I am curious as to why you decided to mount it that way.

Great piece. I wonder what its made of: Plaster, acrylic, paper? I'm so curious. $3000 for something that size is a steal.

I disagree about painting the wall a different color. It would make the piece pop more, but the white on white really helps it read as a textural thing even in a two-dimensional image.

I agree that it is too high and that the bookcases should be reconfigured or changed so as not to compete visually with the piece (all so vertical!). Changing the orientation of the work is entirely up to you. I'm not sure where artist's intent ends and design begins.

LOVE the white on white,
and curious about what the art is made of....

"$3000 for something that size is a steal"

huh? I don't get that comment at all when you can't even tell what the piece is made off. I have an old refrigerator box I'll sell you for $3000 - it's HUGE!!!!!

The white cabinet is Malibu (by Rutger Andersson).
Apt carries their stuff. Basics furniture used to.

Sorry. I'm speaking in Chelsea terms. I worked there in galleries for 5 years, so coming from there, that IS a steal.

Oh, and I'll take that refrigerator box. I'll put it next to my deed for the Brooklyn Bridge!

Speaking in Chelsea terms, that bubbly white mess is heinous at any price. But it does remind me that my shower is overdue for a good scrubbing! Thanks, AT!

Though the artwork freaks me out in a way I would love in a museum/gallery (as edgy and interesting) and hate in my home (as creepy), I do like it against a white wall...because I think it adds to the artist's intention of it, perhaps? I don't know...anyway, I don't think the verticalness of the cabinet and bookshelf are what compete with the art--I think it's that they distract b/c of their diminutive height in comparison to the height of the work. I'm thinking some taller pieces would work really well with it--perhaps NOT in white...or lowering the art so that the furniture isn't drawing your eye away from it.

This Swedish company makes the Malibu line. http://www.traspec.se/EN/malibu.asp
Here is my local store (Richmond, VA) that carries them: http://www.ladiff.com/liv.cas.malibu.htm

Feels like Mars. I like it.

If you do decide to display this piece horizontally, as holly suggested, please send in the new photo. You would have a great view of it from the far side of the table.
