Pitch:
The table in the photo with the fruit bowl is Andy's work, it looks like cardboard but is cast cement. You can see Andy's work on his website Andyfleishman.com. The fruit still-life (I'm holding it up to cover the light switch for the photo to look better and to show the painting) was a gift from my friend Liz Priestley, from the collection of the late Mary Ellen and Gerard Priestley. It usually sits behind the fruit bowl. The large pigs were a gift from a friend, painter George Filonowitz. (More below)

The carved wooden bear and the cat (and a few other even more wonderful pieces) were bought in Maine from a fabulous roadside display we chanced to see, made by the late Phillip Wright. The strange black painting of the yelllow hat girl with the white cat was found in the thrift store on Roosevelt Island during our family holiday celebrations last month. I like to give Andy some quirky, inexpensive art that I love and he gives me some delicious liquor we both can appreciate.

I was thrilled to spot the painting just before Chrismukkah to continue the tradition. Finding it for $10 felt like a magical holiday gift in itself. I'd like to also pitch the website of John Rosenthal. I couldn't get a good pic of our Rosenthal photographs because the glass glares. He's been a wonderful friend since we met him after we saw a show of his at Southeast Center of Contempory Art so many years ago My favorite possession of all might just be his beautiful photograph of our daughter and pony. She's all grown up now and lives in NY.

It took numerous tries just to get INTO this comments section! Not a big a fan of the pigs, but I like the bear, the cat, the burled wood secretary (?) and the otherwise overall color play and harmony.

Piiii-IGS!

I said that a lot during our three months in Durham last year. Wish I'd known you existed, as I feel warmly toward what I'm seeing and could have invited myself to dinner. (For ham?)

Actually, maybe breakfast would have been a better idea -- I'd like to see the color balance in morning sunlight.

I'm also not a huge fan of the pigs painting, but I wish it wasn't hidden behind the hanging lamp in the dining area. It seems a shame to block its view.

Liquor in exchange for art, and friends that give art as gifts?!? You are living a charmed, charmed life!!! Lucky girl!!

Did you try for the menagerie theme to your collection, or did it just happen? I love knowing why people collect what they collect, especially when it yields an interesting specialty.

omigod.
Andy's tiles for Sacks are gorgeous.

I love it when people work in concrete.

Just looked at Andy's tiles; that one very complicated pattern looks like an M.C.Escher; very sexy and plush.

Expected to be not most people's cup of tea, but when no comments showed up I felt really odd. The page didn't open for a while, then I had to leave. I love my art collection and spend way too much time reading this site so this contest excited me. I entered for my own amusement and to shamelessly try to promote Andy's work and John's photographs. Please check out the scope and beauty of his images. So thanks Guido and Curtis for looking at the tiles. We have a wide range of works in our house and chose the easiest to photograph, entering at the 11th hour. I have many pets so the animal subjects are my favorites. Thanks Patrick, I do have a charmed life. We lived in a trailer for many years and the pigs were too intense, to 'psychobilly' even for me, but new space and experiences made the time right for them to come to the table, where kind, funny and curious, creative people are always welcomed so call next time Wende. Now, I'm joining the frey on difficult art on Brook's enty.

Kate, you have a terrific home.
It's a total drag that a tech glitch locked you up when you were at the top of the page.
The pigs take a little explaining, but I totally dig the cat/bear/hat girl with red flowers grouping. I bet it all comes together very nicely in person.

I just took a quick look at Andy's site - really excellent. I hope you guys market those red clay (or concrete as red clay) chairs. I can see them on a west coast patio . . . or in the desert. gorgeous.

A friend of mine in Georgia made an outdoor couch very much like your husbands, but his came out all Fred Flintsoney...

thanks guido, Are you the guido on an art site I saw whose photography is pregnant with menage? I like that. I voted for that owl painting, a hauntingly beautiful image, nicely displayed and photographed. Did you check out the Rosenthal photographs? Speaking of pregnant with menace that photo of the little girl on the road with the snarling dogs knocked me for a loop when I saw it on a gallery wall, We got in touch with John on the strength of the photo show and he's a great guy, check out his book , "Regarding Manhattan" Anyway the black and white photo of the girl and dogs was too disturbing in the confines of trailer
life and we exchanged it. Likewise the pig painting, we had to keep it in a shed for a few years. George's paintings at that time were quite disturbing and I thought the pigs were happy when I first saw it and said how much I liked it. I came home one day to find it beside my door and I was very touched that he would give it to me. INside the trailer. I guickly realized the pigs were crazy and manic and frightened visitors. They lanquished in the basemant until in honor of the changing millinium and some momentous family events they came to their present place. I love them and they looked great in the party pictures.
And they remind me of a dear friend and keep him close even though he moved far away and years slip by.

Rosenthal photographs?

I am not guido the photographer, but I quite liked that entry as well.

It's an interesting subject,
the art you can live with

I have some paintings tucked away that are waiting their time. This is especially true and emotion-laden when you know the artist...

I've sent Andy's site to my cement and tile and working-art-in-the-woods friends down South. I think we all have a few things in common . . .
