Name: Brooke's Antique Collectibles
Location: Upper East Side, NYC
Place: First Overall
Points: 19
Judges Comments:
Jill - I really appreciate the chutzpah as well as forethought of acquiring such a huge object (the Rainbow), finding the perfect space for it, and by doing so, making it art.
Alec - This was a close call for me as Brooke’s space seems the most grown-up, sexy and livable. (Perhaps she is being punished for being too good) But while her room looked “camera ready” the look did not linger as long as Katie’s did.

CONGRATULATIONS BROOKE!!
yay!
I dunno man, this was the most boring entry in the whole contest and then how she some how got all those votes at the end of the semi-finals, just doesn't seem right to me that she would win. Laura's was much more interesting out of the top 2.
okay...so apparently cheating will get you everywhere in this world. first george bush, and now brooke.
the power of Satan is spreading through this world inch by inch.
LAME!
Everyone just try this. Envision the wall without the rainbow sign. Just for kicks. Take away that rainbow sign and what do you have?
A VERY average looking living room with VERY average art at best. Old ad prints, such as the ones in this entry, are common. To top it off you can't even see the detail in any of the prints! What can one say: the framing is blah, the arrangements and use of color in all the rooms is blah, and the furniture/antiques shown are EXTREMELY blah. There was only one piece of original art and even that could have been framed better!
What are these judges thinking? To use the word "sexy" to describe this entry is laughable. To showcase this apartment as an "art and design winner" in any way is reminiscent of one of those bad HGTV decorating shows that's geared toward the average American housewife with no taste. There were much stronger candidates in the lot for sure. Strange judging indeed.
If you look at all of Brooke's images, her creativity shines through. You can tell that each of her art pieces mean something to her, and her arrangements are unpretentious. She's not afraid of color and she uses it well. She has been my fave all along. I think her apartment is much more artistic than the ones that pretend to be galleries. Whiners are what's lame around here.
Methinks Henri took this contest VERY seriously. It seems that he now thinks the judges were paid off or something. Is the art contest the figure skating judging scandal of 2006? ;)
My favorites were Susiq, Priya, Tash, Frank, Boris and Brooke. Not popular choices with everyone, but all of them were much homier, warm, and full of feeling than the rest, IMHO. I'd hate living in a museum.
Yeah, Fiona. I wonder who "Henri" really is, anyway. Most likely one disgruntled competitor who didn't make it to the final smackdown and is now bitching about it using numerous aliases.
And to Lynda, take away the artwork in any of these places and all you have is a wall. Big deal.
Congratulations. Brooke had my vote. The interior alone does not scream "look at me, look at me!" but seems warm and comfortable and is balanced by the dramatic art of the Rainbow sign.
Oh Lynda/Henri, Your offensive insults reveal your true nature. What a petty life you must lead.
Congratulations, Brooke. This really is a lovely entry and I'm glad it got recognized.
Well I have to agree that in comparison to other entries the design here seems kinda boring... It's not particularly interesting other than the sign which I think is kitchy. Is kitchy what the judges are going for here? And if we're talking about artwork... the artwork was barely visable and really not displayed with an eye for design. Just my thoughts here but I don't imagine this place being showcased for design. I thought Katie, Laura, Turqoise and Dana had much stronger entries.
I'm glad you won, Brooke! Don't let the less than complimentary people hurt your feelings.
Lynda, I am an American housewife and I have more style and class in my pinky finger than you do in your whole body.
I just know all these naysayers and uber-critical people are one and the same person formerly known as Henri.
CONGRATS, Brooke! I thought your entry is great and was among my favorites.
I must have VERY different tastes when it comes to artwork... I didn't find any of the entries very inspiring except the "Only painting" one that "looks like it should be in a glossy magazine."
I think it was the sheer volume of art in Katie's, and the art-deco feel of that "rainbow" sign in the above that put me off.
The great part abou this is that the people who created these living spaces love them, and that's really all that matters. What they've done doesn't have to appeal to me to be great.
Hey guys lay off Henri already! I too think Brooke was:
-Clearly not the best
-And she CHEATED
what do you win in this contest? my space would certainly win.
