apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

See My Artwork! Contest: Laura - 2nd Place

(Note: We're not trying to drag this out to torture anyone; it's just been a very busy day away from blogging ;-))

Place: Second Overall
Points: 15

Judges Comments:

Jill - I enjoyed the range and content of art found in this apartment--especially the pics of barcelona. I was enamored, as well, with the placement and simplicity of the desk area.

Alec - Laura's stood out for me because I like the different images and styles of art in the space. I also love the blue wall, which sets off her pieces beautifully. I wish there was one bigger painting above the desk. I think it would ground the other pieces.

SKGR - I liked Laura's a great deal. The textures and colors all go wall together and even though there's a lot going on, it's clean and thoughtful.

Maxwell - I really liked how cozy, creative and clean Laura's home felt. There was also a really nice balance here between creativity and order.

I was sad that Salvador didn't make it to the finals, but Laura was definitely my top pick following that disappointment.

Way to go Laura!

Where did you find your excellent desk and bookcase?

Hey Szig,
I designed my desk and bookcase and hired a couple guys to build it for me. I helped stain it as well. Just wanted something that fit the room perfectly and made the most of every inch of space I had.

Congratulations Laura! I've been pulling for you from the start. I love the look of your apartment--the selection of art with the weathered furniture and the great paint selection for the wall. It's simply beautiful.

Good work, Laura. And that beautiful blue paint is so serene & soothing, creating a perfect background for the art. (What brand/color paint is it?!)

Thanks Brooke! And congradulations to you as well .....Phyllis, the paint is Martin Senour and I've lost the swatch. The code is: ECO844V 07671. You can give that to the paint people and they'll know what to do. You'll be able to find similar colors in other brands. Thanks!

How many others have been inspired to paint their own rooms this beautiful shade of blue?! If we can measure votes on the basis of inspiration, I think Laura is the real winner!

Just this morning I went to the paint shop and bought a sample of Pratt & Lambert's 'Bleu Passe' (suggested by another AT reader as being a similar color). Can't wait to go home and paint!

Thanks Laura!

I'm glad this did so well. I just love it a whole, whole lot. I think that each of the artworks is really very good, and they get along so well together.

And I think that the judges did a good job in such a very, very close race.
