2004_10_27_handyman.gifHelp when you need it. Part of our dream is to have a working archive of small local carpenters and contractors that New Yorkers can easily find when small work is needing to be done. The list is slowly growing. (Thanks, Tate!) MGR

"I really like our contractor/handyman, he owns Almac Hardware in Newkirk Plaza (Flatbush area on B/Q train). His name is Javier (nickname Javi) and he runs a super friendly family business.

You can tell by his patience and care that he likes what he does...a lot! He had a crew come in to do our apartment ceiling for us, and we were very happy with the price and the job done. Definitely cheaper than Park Slope/Heights area places. Email info@almachardware.com.

You can tell him Tate from Sony sent you."

I can't recommend Almac enough. Everyone I dealt with was unbelievably kind and fair and REALLY good at their jobs. I needed a washer/dryer hookup put in my kitchen that involved some plumbing, some electric, some drilling, some flooring, and some plastering. Not only did Almac give me the most affordable estimate by far, they were hands down the most pleasant to deal with. They took care in their work, didn't rush the job, answered all my questions and were even funny (helpful when you're stuck in the house all day with a plumber). It's a family operation so I feel good about where my money went.
