Feel clean beneath your feet. It seems that the Irish are moving in on the flooring niche. Sullivan Floors has been around for 35 years, and if you call them up you will find yourself talking with a bright, helpful person with an accent as thick as syrup. Not that that has anything to do with floors.
One of the best fixer uppers an apartment can have is to have the floors sanded and repolyurethaned. Althought it is messy, it is quickly done and usually doesn't cost much more than a painting a room. With newer, water based poly's multiple coats can even be put on in one day, thereby speeding up the process even more.
We have used Sullivan floors and like them. They provide free estimates (call 2-3 days in advance), and can book your floor with one week's notice. Rates run around $2-$3 a square foot for typical sand and poly. This puts your average 10x10 living room at @ $250. Slán abhaile. MGR

we are in the processing of booking sullivan to redo our floors. once completed, i will be back with a full review!
okay, floors are done...i'm back to say-
wow! they did a fantastic job. the floors look really beautiful and shiny. it turned out to be 2.50/sq ft. i would highly recommend them in the future. in fact, i've got another room to do and will be definitely calling them to come back.
THey won't work in Brooklyn.
I had Sullivan Floors Install a factory finished strip oak floor in my apartment on 78th Street. I have to say that it was a wonderful experience from start to finish and everything was as promised. The work men were polite and knowlegable. If you need a flooring company this one fits should meet your needs. I highly recomend them. Note: They advised me that its better to install floors in the spring and fall because of the temp and humidity.
We just had Sullivan Flooring Service sand, seal and apply 3 coats of water based polyurethene to the wood floors in our apartment. The floors look fantastic and the experience was great. Everyone I dealt with at Sullivan (customer service, guy who quoted the job, guys who came and did the job) were professional, personable and knowledgeable. They promptly provided the insurance paperwork needed to get approval from our co-op board and were helpful in rescheduling the job when approval didn't come through as soon as I expected it to. Would happily use them again and recommend them to anyone.
A few more comments about Sullivan Floors. I just had them do some work for me on my house in Westchester. This is the 4th time I have used them in the past 7 years in different properties I have owned. I find there work just keeps getting better. They are not for the "Pennie Savers" but are a rare breed of high end value type. I recommend them highly and believe you will get good value and a great job with a company that calls you back when theres a problem or calls you about a potential problem.

I read all the great reviews & decided to contract with Sullivan Floors to refinish my floors in the living room, hallway & kitchen. While the quality of the work was excellent, their customer service is truly HORRIBLE and I wouldn't use their services again. Their manager (Enya? Anya?) is rude & disrespectful and a complete nightmare to deal with. Eddie was quite nice and professional, but I could never reach him because the manager refused to let me speak to him on multiple occasions. Then, after they finished the job, Sullivan DOUBLE-CHARGED my credit card for their services and refused to acknowledge their mistake!!! I now have to dispute the charge with my credit-card company and am faced with nearly $1,000 more in expenditures than I agreed to. I would NEVER use this company again under any circumstances!! I hope future potential customers can learn from my bad experience.

I agree with oeverbey. i think they did a great job replacing the floors in my 100-year old building. But, that Anya was so rude and extremely difficult to work with. She billed my credit card twice for one payment, and now I --unfortunately-- have to deal with her again.
For that reason, I'm not certain if I'd work with Sullivan Floors again.
