Armor Collapsing Sideboard by Dave Keune

Named Armor this oak sideboard from Netherlands-based designer Dave Keune was created as an almost-secret place to store valuables.

The different faceted components slide apart to access the interior. Armor is designed and produced in a limited edition of 8 items for Privee Kollektie.

This is a good mental design exercise, but it fails my personal criteria of usefulness and aesthetics.

What is the point of collapsible storage if it means you will have less space to store your items? When will this the value of a collapsible/expandable piece for this type of furniture be needed?

I see now. It doesn't collapse at all. Instead of doors, the tops slide open. I still don't like it.
