Attachez by Shay Alkalay

Have an old table? Have a jigsaw? Get yourself an Attachez by Shay Alkalay and you'll also have a very cool, modern storage unit...

Created by Shay Alkalay, the Attachez adds a drawer to any existing table (or any flat surface, for that matter). We like how it breathes new life into old, tired pieces. Via: Treehugger.

I'm not loving this. It looks cobbled together . . . and not in a good way.

Everything else on Shay's site looks wonderful. But that is a horrible idea. Not only will cutting through a table like that hurt it structurally potentially enough to break it completely if any excessive weight is applied to the top, but it just plain looks really BAD. This looks like a design concept that simply wasn't thought carefully enough.

exactly... as if you need to destroy the table you have in order to add a shelf that doesn't fit well or have much storage space. poor tables.

Icky, but I like the idea. Would it work to widen the side pieces for a shelf above the table surface? Hmmm....

This could be really beautiful if incorporated into a new furniture design rather than using an existing table. Very cool idea.

This reminds me a lot of the very useful under-shelf wire basket by Rubbermaid. That was a good idea.

I think the drawer will not ride smoothly, as it wedges itself between the two yellow 'guides'. Guides witch will try to crack open the slots sawn in the table...

All in all a bad idea. Better buy some metal guides and mount them inside a drawer that can then be suspended from the table.

when i looked at this i thought it was a good idea before i realized it meant cutting the table. like the person above me suggested, i thought it was a drawer that was held up there. maybe by brackets or something
