Ex Libris by Ligne Roset

As great as it looks, there's one thing we really like about the Ex Libris line of shelving by Ligne Roset. The ladder! Check out how that library ladder tapers to the top. The shape looks like it is informed by balance. We'd love to get our hands on this without the rest of the shelving system.

However, the system comes with a rail that supports the ladder. We think a similar ladder could work simply propped against a vertical surface, though.

IKEA has two new ladders. One wooden one from the IKEA Stockholm collection for $99 and one metal one, INREDA, for $49.99.

That ladder shape is pretty much modeled after classic fruit-picking ladders, I think.

And the shape comes from the need for a top that can be tucked in among the tree branches... hence the taper.

I want one! Then I could pretend I'm Audrey Hepburn flirting with Fred Astaire in the little book shop in Funny Face...!

Couldn't you add a bit of molding or something to a shelf to help anchor the ladder--give it something to grip?

I have promised myself that I get to have a bookshelf ladder in my new place, and this is definitely cuter than either of the IKEA ones.

The point of the upper rungs of a ladder are to hold with your hands. I do not like this ladder because the ladder is very narrow at the top, therefore uncomfortable to hold.

Sorry, but both those IKEA ladders are accidents waiting to happen. Very poorly designed.
