We are real ambivalent about this one. We find it both impossibly funny and possibly brilliant at the same time. You can make the final call. Garde Robe is a "first-class" storage solution for "New Yorkers, travelers and fashion industry professionals." What the hell does that mean? It means that they combine storage for your clothes with a concierge-type service to efficiently whisk what you want back and forth from your apartment or hotel room. They even have a 90 minute "rush" service...

The kicker is that they photograph everything you store with them and organize it all on their website, so that you can see what you have with them and decide what you need from anywhere in the world (interface menu pictured above). They call it your "Cyber Closet." They have removed the black hole effect of typical storage.
The physical storage facility features include full climate control, air purification and a very sophisticated security system which includes state-of-the-art 24/7 video monitoring.
If you travel a great deal this also means that you can keep clothing in NYC and not have to pack it in a bag or run it through customs or security. They'll have what you need delivered to your hotel room and then pick it up, dry clean it and return it to storage when you are done. There are also a number of Special services available at an additional hourly rate (fittings & alterations, wardrobe consultants, hair & makeup professionals, etc). Not bad, we've just never been a continent hopper.
Rates now begin at $350 a month for clothing, shoes and accessories, or $225 for footwear only.
In the time since our original post, Garde Robe has expanded and now offers closet storage based in Tokyo through Garde Robe Japan. Interestingly, Garde Robe also has a retail presence where they sell garments on consignment. Given their customers, this could be an even more valuable discovery.

wow..... I just had one of those moments where you think "hell, why didn't I think of that?" Not that I have a ton of clothing but because I HATE doing laundry this would be awesome! Knowing how indecisive I can be I would have to have the whole closet delivered, pick one outfit and then have it all sent back! haha not very cost affective!

With the money you save on this 'first class' service, you could just rent a bigger apartment! Has the world gone mad!?

what happened to the other comments that were posted here?

Pixie, the other comments were sent out for cleaning and storage.
I can't believe people would pay $225 a month to store their shoes.

Pixie:
There was a weird bug with the first re-edited post. The easiest and fastest way to fix it was to copy and paste the entire post to a *new* post (which erased the comments).

I feel like a persona non grata! Just kidding - thanks for explaining. I guess those comments were outsourced.
