apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Good Questions: Similar and Cheaper Display Case?

8.1dresser.jpgDear AT,

I recently saw this great white display case with three, large circles cut out of the doors from Pottery Barn.

I could do without the pink interior, but a bit paint could change this.

They don't seem to offer it for sale.

Any ideas?

Thanks! DB

Ikea has something similar. I saw it in their store, but I'm not seeing it online just now.

If you like DIY projects... You can take an existing bookshelf and make this happen.

Measure the book shelf for length. Add a center "stud" in the center where you will later add two panels/hinges. Create 4 panels all the same width/height (as seen in the photo). Take 2 panels and draw the circles on them (when separated there will be semi-circles).Cut semi-circles out of each panel. They will join together (as seen in the photo). Attach with hinges.

To Tashar and others,

Thanks for the d.i.y. advice. By the way, Pottery Barn contacted me and said to look for the item in the fall catalog, it may be offered for sale then.

That's funny ... I asked them about that same bookcase for my niece's room. They said end of July, but it's still not up there.

I second the post from thevioletpear. I've used Via Toy Box for projects and the system is simple, sturdy, and affordable.

After looking at the Via I can't imagine it as a near replacement for the PB item. I can imagine using their "bedside table" as a nice wall-mounted den for my kitty, with nice space on top, too.
