NY Good Questions: Side Tables To Complete My Bedroom?

2.19bed.jpgHello AT,

I just purchased the Elan bed from Crate & Barrel and resisted being matchy when buying side tables and didn't buy the ones with the set.

Now I'm not sure what kind to get.

I'd like one with a drawer, and the dresser that I have in the bedroom (but am not married to) has a black finish with brushed metal pulls.

I'd love some advice on good side tables to complete the bedroom of my dreams!

Thanks! Ashley

What are you going for? Minimalism, ecclectic, feminine? I would go with white lacquer and add modern lamps.

I suggest something a little more ornate. The lines of the bed are simple and clean. Go for antique Empire style cabinets. They have clean lines and mix well with more modern furniture. Most have a drawer at the top and a door underneath. I have even seen some with marble tops. You can refinish to match the decor or paint to blend in.

Personally, I would go with the Elan bedside tables. Otherwise, I'm seeing square tables with steel legs (Florence Knoll style) and a travertine top/possible glass on each side of the bed.

bicoastalnyla- i'm going for eclectic minimalism, if that's possible. RO1 - the tulip Saarinen table would be perfect but i'd love something with drawers. Thanks everyone for your contributions!

Antique/baroque style bamboo tray table;
mirrored side chest w/drawers;
natural tree-stump side table;
Parson's cube table (laquered);
mirror-top baroque table;
nesting tables;
short chest of drawers (extra storage, and cool if you have enough room);
antique (or new) Chinese Garden Stool/
Metallic drum table;

These are my ideas. Let your end tables shine with such a simple bed! :)

I'm having the same dilemma with my bedroom setup. I think the main issue you will have to deal with is the fact that many of the more modern side table/nightstands tend to be quite short (to go with those low platform beds). And the Elan bed looks higher. I'd definitely go with something simple, in a color (to avoid any clashes with the wood), but not too traditional looking.

I have been scouring the net for a modern walnut sidetable that is not like 600$ with no avail. Tried Room and Board, Crate and Barrel, CB2, West Elm. :(
