NY Good Questions: Where Can I Find a Similar Shelf in the U.S.?

7.11bookcase.jpgDear AT,

I'm dying to find a domestic version of this shelf.

This one's from The Netherlands, and they won't ship to me here in the US.

Has anyone seen anything similar?

Or know anyone in Amsterdam who'll take a delivery for me?

Thanks! Rachel

The one pictured is lovely in its simplicity, and I've actually been looking for something similar. The closest I've come so far is the Sloane Leaning Bookcase from Crate & Barrel.

As you can see, it's not quite the same, but still nice.

This shelf looks quite simple to make actually, with basic wood and white lacquer. If you can find good pictures of it, maybe you can find someone who can make it for you? That would be simpler than spending hours trying to find something similar but not as good, or getting it in the plane after a weekend in Rotterdam :-)

yeah, that looks like it would be incredibly easy to make. even if you don't consider yourself a DIYer, if you have any interest at all, this is a good beginner project. you could even have it custom sized for the space it will be going in. your hardware store will cut wood to size for you, and all you'll need is a drill and some screw (and some paint), and you'll be done in an hour or so.

While not an exact copy, it reminds me a lot of the Pottery Barn Studio Wall Shelf.
You could probably have something similar made--that's what I did once when I knew exactly what kinds of book shelf I wanted. It doesn't look like it would be a difficult job.

build one yourself:

I too love this bookshelf - any ideas for finding similar in Australia or companies that ship to Australia?

Yup, agree with suitep on the C&B leaning bookshelf. I own it and it's great. I also think I've seen similar at West Elm.

Costco. Three for $249. But you'd have to paint them white.

5 Shelves. 24 inches wide.

Straight from the Crate had one for a while, but like the rest, it was not white; you'd have to paint it. Those tend to be called leaning bookcase, leaning bookshelf, or sometimes ladder bookcase, if you're searching online.
