Take Out Dresser

2005_2_2_klaus.jpg

For the man on the go... We just wanted to add one more pretty thing.... This is from DIY Helsinki and is featured in Metropolis. It is called the Take Out Dresser, and it is designed by Klaus Aalto.

What these young Finns are up to is interesting stuff (doesn't "young Fin" sound good?). Battling away against the Italians and the Swedes. Also, take a look at this Bar Expresso Cup (Alfstrom & Keaney), which is rounded on the bottom, but sits snug in it's saucer. MGR

Why buy plastic furniture, ever?

Both these things look cool, but too much of a pain to use. Why would you want to take your T-Shirt drawer with you anywhere? The cup & saucer - too exacting to use. The Fins need to be more functional for me to get interested.

Aalto? Is he related to Alvar?

Why would you want your furniture to end up looking as battered and abused as your luggage?

I think the dresser would be great for our office or any design studio. Each project gets a drawer, pop it out for a meeting, pop it back. Looks like a hassle for socks, though.

Wow. Two really, really useless designs...

The cabinet is interesting (I saw it first hand last May). I could see it being useful if you had kids- stick toy selections in each case, and take them with you on trips. The cases are off-the-shelf items, so if they get lost or damaged you can replace them.

The cup and saucer are fairly silly though.

the dresser is great! re-think how you organize your clothes and belongings...instead of putting all your shirts together, why not put two days of complete outfits (pants, undies, sweaters, etc.) in each "drawer"...now you're packed and ready to go! the act of getting dressed has an element of surprise, when you open a dawer and put something on based on choices you made last week. where can i get one? better yet, where can i get the luggage to make my own?
