apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

taTu by Stephen Burks for Artecnica

We admit that we can be real suckers for multipurpose furniture. taTu, designed by Stephen Burks, is a coffee table, stool, or side table made up of serving tray, bowl, and basket modules. Get all that?

The coffee table breaks down into a large tray, bowl and basket; side table becomes a medium tray, bowl and trash can. Only the stool is a one-piece object that breaks down no further but provides seating to match the tables.

The taTu line is one of Artecnica's Design with Conscience projects, employing production methods that are humane and environmentally friendly.

The tables come in a polished white or red powder coating over galvanized steel wire, for use indoors and out. The coffee table is priced at $550.

Like the way this looks. doubt it would be used for much more than a table though

This looks like the Ethiopian basket/tables. I had one for a long time, bought in the market in Addis, wrapped in plastic trash bags, and carried around the continent, Europe and back home (on a 3-week business trip) past a series of unbelieving customs officers who thought it was the funniest thing they'd ever seen once they figured out it wasn't a very large bomb. ("C'est un panier??!! Mon Dieu!")

Saw this in a design mag and liked it then. Like it now. Price is steep. How much you wanna make a bet someone at IKEA or Target will eventually knock this off?

It cries out to be knocked off by Container Store, doesn't it?
