Twisted Cabinet & Shingle Chest

London calling. Saw these in ID Magand liked them. The Twisted Cabinet and the Shingle Chest are both by in Hungerford, England.

Started by Terence Conran and Sean Sutcliffe as a handmade woodshop over 20 years ago, Benchmark now employs 40, commissions designers internationally and furnishes huge, high profile jobs.

The Shingle Chest (Shin and Tomoko Azumi) is lacquered oak and hides a number of different sized drawers ($4,700). The Twisted Cabinet (Thomas Heatherwick) is made of thin strips of oak that have to be bent and then reattached. This is the way airplane propellers were once made. MGR

I suspect that Georgia O'Keefe would have been a fan of the Twisted Cabinet.

My first thought was how interesting this piece is. The next was what a ridiculous price tag it has.

If I were making crazy amounts of money, which I'm not, I still wouldn't drop that kind of dough on it.

When it comes to furniture, I prefer to see things that are useful. If a designer ceases to make useful furniture the price shouldn't go up, rather it should do the reverse.
