I have to say that the house tour suffers from the same tendency as recent Dwell magazines: arty close-ups. I read this blog because I am interested in the whole space, and individual pieces are only interesting to in the context of how they fit into the whole.

Form the toronto tour there are only a few pics that give a feeling of what whole rooms look like, and none of them connect the pics in a way that lets me know how the rooms are related to one another. I would love a view from the kitchen into the living room to see a different angle, or from wherever these people sit into the kitchen as if we were guests talking to a host. I want to feel how the whole place is assembled.

While some of their art pieces are interesting, my interest in them is purely secondary to how they fit with the apartment. This arises out of a tendency to try and make interesting images, like the one of the glass bottles. While this is a lovely photo, and an interesting vignette, I have no idea where it fits in the apartment.

In general, I would beseech one thing of those offering home tours, whether established on the site on trying out. Notice what the shots that get top billing (i.e. are selected to represent the whole series) look like. They are of the whole apartment. Please make more of the photos look like that!

I think the applications are great, and I look forward to seeing more! Specifically more apartments! I love apartments! :)

what a whiner (vmb)!
i like the house tour slideshow and i thought it was pretty good compared to some others i've seen on the site that have lots of close-ups of nothing in particular. I thought there were a few "arty close-ups" but they were really well done. And on top of your whining, the images that were chosen to "represent the whole series" included an "arty close-up" of the noguchi lamp and stones. So there! I think the little vignettes that make up a whole home can be really important and really sweet.
One thing I would like to see with house tours is more floor plans.
Jan - great house tour!
