Neat idea but I would not burn it personally.

wouldn't the wax drip straight onto the ground (or onto you if you find yourself standing beneath it) when it's lit?

Oh dear. What happens, if due to drafts and such, that the candles burn at different rates? Would that cause it to tip, possibly putting the flame too close to a stand, or worse, the ceiling? Or, something equally flammable?

I believe it is more about the process of making it...
