Blake Dollahite's Modern Farmhouse

The artwork in the corner pulled us into this post at Design Sponge...

...and the rest of the photos pulled us further and kept us there. We've been thinking back to the house all weekend. So, take a look! The post is Alyson Fox's sneek peek into designer Blake Dollahite's modern farmhouse in Austin. If you want to get in even deeper, see the house and its building process straight from Dollahite himself.

This place blows me away. Where can I learn to make furniture like that?

Pixie... you could start by visiting the IKEA store. This might be higher end furniture, but the process is the same, just with higher quality materials. A lot of people here (I've noticed recently) have grown to hate, despise, abhor, and take IKEA for granted, sort of like a mocking, pinching pennies, getting it done quick, "last resort", when in reality like it or not, they're making decent design within reach (unlike the other guys named that) and most of their stuff is a HUGE bang for their buck. In this case, since you say you want to experiment building things, the really nice piece on the left reminds me of the 6 box EXPEDIT bookcase, turned on its side with it's respective doors and a custom round handle or a cheaper version, the SKICK knob. Maybe add the Sultan leg (which is extremely easily and safe done with a drill). and for under 100 bucks, you can have it. Add another 5 bucks worth of Home depot brackets and make it ridiculously sturdy.

Djluckyonline - I just happened back on this thread and discovered your response. That's an interesting idea. Maybe I could incorporate the plexi doors with interior lighting (a la Maxwell).
