Architect Cyril Brule built himself a tiny cabin on his family's land in Burgandy, France. Simplicity abounds in material consideration and scale. We're especially fond of the linseed-oiled fir siding and the textured rubber floor (though we would have chosen a richer color). Though unpainted, the interior walls are warm and welcoming.

the outside of that little cabin is super cool, but the inside is a list of bad choices.
1. budget ikea kitchen
2. rubber gym flooring?!
3. osb plywood is an awful material, what a terrible choice for an interior wall covering - yuk!
4. big ol pc computer by the bed? whats the point of having a little get away like this if its filled with ass
5. I'm stunned this guy is an architect...
whew, sorry about the rant.

I like it. I mean, he's no interior designer & what an odd place for a massive PC, but it has potential! Plus, he built it himself. Impressive.

i agree with kung fu grip.
i LOVE the outside. the interior is a TOTAL disconnect.
in my opinion, the biggest eyesore is the chipboard. i can't imagine it would have been that much more expensive to use solid wood veneer plywood panels. i find the chipboard busy and cheap looking.

Should PC/TV monitor be directly under windows? Better to have a laptop on dining table at right angles to a window, or better yet, no PC (perhaps this is a state-issued one). Glad to see books, though, and ample space for more. They have much potential to take the curse off budget materials.

I'd like to make a barely related comment/question:
Why do you use the word "slinks"? The links are not surreptitious in any way, they are right there on your front page in a list with all your other links. It makes no sense.

Whoa whoa whoa. Before some people get crazy:
It's not finished, yet.
The computer has been replaced with a laptop.
The OSB panels are formaldehyde-free. It's easy to use something else. But this is the architect's personal residence, so he gets to do whatever he wants, right?
The floor is by Nora Rubber. It's not gym flooring.
Kung Fu Grip: Nice language, yo.

Absolutely wonderful! I'm completely blown away by the simplicity, design, and functionality here. Amazing! I highly recommend people click through to the source and read the story. There are a lot of details people are missing.

I can't believe the reaction this place received - especially considering some of the other god-awful places sometimes shown on this site.
I actually like it - he clearly didn't build it to be luxuriously extravagant and fancy - he built it as a little hideaway and it fulfills that purpose admirably
What on earth is wrong with that PC? - it looks exactly like the one I'm typing on right now and I work in the office of a multi-national corporation - how wasteful it would be to dispose of a perfectly good working PC just for aesthetic reasons - and he can lie in bed and watch DVDs on it or sit on the edge of the bed and use it - seems perfectly sensible to me!
and I LOVE the outdoor-dunny feel of the bathroom
