Sculptural Vessels. We're not sure we could see filling Etienne Meneau's beautiful decanters with anything — can you imagine trying to clean the wine residue out of these intricate (and fragile) glass sculptures? And when the limited-edition pieces are priced at €2000 each, we are happy just looking at the pictures. Via: Core77...

I think it would be great fun to specifically design a home where as many things as possible are as completely illegible to the naked eye as to their function as this is. Where everywhere you look is something that is mysterious.

But then, you'd also need to make them all look good together, while you're at it.

Very original concept, I really like them but the price seems a bit steep

They remind me of giant spiders, and give me the creeps. Brrr.

I thought decanters were supposed to let the wine breathe?

Bonjour,

Carafes are made of borosilicate glass (pyrex), it is a very resistant glass, thermally and chemically, so you can clean them with very hot water or products against fur ...

Archie - The original posting on Core77 talks about how pouring the wine through this ornate maze of a carafe will aerate the wine in the process...

Aerating the wine solely while pouring is inefficient. Typical decanters have space so you can also stir the wine, not to mention space to create air contact.

However, should you choose to use it as a decanter, you could use efferdent to clean the wine out of the legs.

Decanter seems to be a scientific or oenologic word in USA, I prefere to say Carafe.
It is a carafe for a feast table or a buffet lunch. It is not an every day object . I feel it like a ceremony object.

The size of those Carafes are massive! I didn't grasp the size until I seen the picture matching it to a traditional wine bottle.

One question. If wine is supposed to be served chillled, how would you chill this beast?
