The Esquire 360 house doesn't hold a candle to the '61 Playboy house, which is really the zenith of mid-mod bachelor pad style, before it became a tacky joke (Pierre Cardin almost saved it in the '70s, but not quite). Esquire does offer some real competition -- but you have to back to the issues of the '30s to find it.

I've always considered doing a bracketed shelf of some kind around the top of my room, because hoo boy do I have a lot of books (as I've mentioned). However, I've always been afraid that if I did, even if I had the brackets properly bolted to studs, the books would one day come crashing down on my head. =/

Brava, Nikkomoy! For a long time now, whenever I've had space issues (as in, lack of), I've looked up and thought about utilizing all the lovely expanses of it above the doorline. I'm gratified to see that someone else has had that thought as well.
