Those Lee Valley tins are great: I used those along w/ their rare earth magnets. Super strong. Tip: use super glue, not hot glue, to adhere the magnets. In warm weather the hot glue loosens and all your tins will end up on the floor!=O Click on my name for a link to a kitchen shot of the tins in action (zoom in on the fridge door).

o.k. just had to share -- for organizing doodads on the cheap -- recycle baby food jars: get some plywood in whatever size you think you'll need, nail the caps to the board, store your oddznenz in the jars and just screw the jar onto the cap. Everything is visible :)

The lee valley tins will not work on vertical surfaces because the lids are much too loose to maintain their contents. A better bet are the craft organizing rounds with screw on clear lids sold at the craft store. These already have magnets on the back and have starter sets with a small metal board to hang on the wall. Highly recommended for miscellany.
