How To: Educate Yourself About Lighting "Swedes need artificial light to stay sane, so they're experts"
I love this bathroom! I've recently moved and whilst the new place is lovely with pine floorboards and a renovated kitchen that has Wedgewood blue walls, the bathroom is an abysmal 70's job with beige floral wall tiles, a pale pink bathtub, gold taps and an incredibly musty cabinet unit! I'm not going to be spending much time in there, methinks :(
These are a great resource. I happen to have seasonal affective disorder AND very little experience with lighting because I grew up in Mexico. The Ikea website was particularly good. Still, it seems that a lot of this is trial and error. People who are sensitive to light (as I am) have to avoid some sorts of lights and tend to thrive on others, especially indirect, soft light.
My best advice for people with SAD is to make sure your apartment faces south or SE and does not have anything blocking it so as to get as much light as possible in the winter. Then, look for soft lighting. Once I get it all together, I'll let all of you know how it went. For now, I'm still experimenting.
