it was under $7 (compared to the $19 ikea model), and i use it as a step stool in the kitchen, as well as something to sit on occassionally. it's actually quite nice. simple, clean, and does the job.
if you hacked it instead of the ikea one, you'd save money, but also have the original handle-holes intact, which might be a handy feature.
it says it requires assembly (not true), but, unfortunately, it also says it's not currently available. : (
but, if it comes back in stock, or you can find it somewhere else, you'd save a little dough if you wanted to execute this project.
