Because of space, I alternate each glass - one up/one down. It saves room on the shelf.

The everyday ones in the kitchen cupboard - down. The ones in the china cabinet - right side up.

I have mine down, too - I grew up with them that way. I'll have to ask my mom if her mother had them that way - and if she remembers why. It will be interesting to see if my son will do it that way when (if?? ;->) he moves into his own place, although he puts them upside down when he puts dishes away here...

Right side up - I don't want the bit that comes into contact with my mouth to be in contact with any thing else - just makes hygenic sense to me

right side up, seems hygenic to me too...though when I lived in Tx in an apartment it was right side down- didn't want the critters to get in the glass.....
