From The Kitchn: Portugese Pumpkin Compote

Jam made out of pumpkin? How about jam made out of butternut squash and coconut? That's essentially what doce de abóbora, a Portugese sweet, is made out of. It's easy and delicious - see more of this bright orange jam at The Kitchn.

hi, the sweet made of squash and coconut is "doce de abóbora com coco". when you say "doce de abóbora" it's only with pumpkin, sugar and water.

it's usually made from the overcooked dices from "doce de abóbora em calda" (pumpkin sweet in syrup) where you dice the squash and leave it overnight with crystal sugar, then you put some water and boil it until it cooks and the water sugar thickens a bit. then you put the dices in a glass and cover with the syrup. when you do it some pieces of pumpkin get accidentally smashed, and with those you make the one in the picture.

my dad always made that from the pumpkins he grew in the backyard, but here in brazil pumpkin season is in may, also mid-fall. :)
