Green Tour: Harbinger Showhouse
From Re-nest: Our site that covers abundant design for green homes

9-26-2008sgblocks2.jpgThe highlight of this year's West Coast Green had to be the Harbinger Showhouse -- a shipping container home, assembled on the tradeshow floor in the San Jose Convention Center in under 5 hours. Here's the tour!
Elsewhere: We're looking for your creative reuse ideas (and the first 15 we post will get a free AT T-shirt)! Also, we're discussing how green those reusable totes really are and if you're using yours enough. And we're using egg cartons all over the house. Get all the links after the jump.

9-29-2208reuse1.jpgWe want your creative reuse ideas. Here's our first submission -- Nora's turned her canning jars into picture frames. What are you doing with your canning jars ... or wine bottles ... or milk jugs?

9-29-2008wsj.jpgWe're big believers in reusable totes as an alternative to plastic bags. But, according to a Wall Street Journal article, if you aren't using your totes enough, you might be doing more harm than good.

How many different ways can you use an old egg carton? We can think of at least 11.

You can reuse the egg carton to separate jewelry or as seed pots for new seeds.

OK, here's my dining room chandelier, made out of shower curtain rings from the Dollar Store, two aquarium bulbs & the plastic tray form a shrimp cocktail tray from the local deli.

I made it as an temporary stand-in for a real Art Deco-style chandelier which I wanted to have custom-made in preparation for a glossy magazine's impending visit. But I not only ran out of time to get the actual piece ordered, I ran out of time to take this thing down and it was still hanging there in all it's cheesy glory when the very chic Editor-in-Chief walked in my front door. Too late now!

I was already launching into my 'I'm-really-sorry-I-ran-out-of-time-but-I-can-take-it-all-down-in-about-15-minutes' spiel when she grabbed my arm and said "DONT touch it! I love it!"

What can I say? Sarah Gray Miller is the Best.
