How To... Make a Tree Branch Curtain Rod
Slinks: n. (slingks) Surreptitious web links to other good sites

Paint it white and call it a day. Okay, it's not quite that easy, but almost. This DIY project is for a curtain rod made of a tree branch...

The project requires that you find a well-formed tree branch, prune it, paint it, and attach it to your wall. Then hang curtains that tie at the top. The drawback is that you can't slide the curtains open and closed when they're hanging from a tree branch, they'll have to be tied back instead. Via: DIY Ideas.

i'm not a fan of rustic, but this is VERY DRAMATIC!!!

it's modern and rustic at the same time. love it!

Since the curtains can't close anyway, this would be even more dramatic with the contrast of a really lush, plushy curtain.

I'm seeing it in a 1920s-ish house that has wide but not elaborate window molding... something to lend a sense of humor to the rather aggressive graciousness of the period...

I did this with unpainted tree branches, mounted on green-copper-colored dragonfly-shaped brackets. It was kind of cool and funny.

What happens when the bark comes off? The paint won't spackle it together forever....

This is trying too hard. Horrible.

But how do you attach it to the wall?

If you don't move the curtains too much (which I didn't), the bark isn't an issue. And I chose branches with kind of thin bark.

It's attached to the wall with brackets (you can see them in the photo, also white).

I'm thinking it might look better if you use birch...and don't paint it.

unpainted birch bark would be pretty but would definitely peel off in a short amount of time.

Part of what makes this work so well is the dark brown wall.

agreed with curtis... the brown wall really sets up the white branch well for display, and then the colour of the curtain in turn goes well with the colour (which just happens to be white here) of the branch!
