Was never a huge eggnog fan UNTIL two things changed my mind: Williams Sonoma Eggnog Streusel Bundt Cake Mix (with a side of rum-raisin ice cream, or some rum-spiked whipped cream!!), AND Starbuck's Chai Eggnog Latte. ohdeargod it is like a DRUG.

I love Silknog. It tastes like the real thing to me, but I guess I don't know better!

I'm a big fan of the SoCo eggnog.
It does pain me how difficult it is to find eggnog in my neighborhood grovery stores. I guess that's a clear sign that I should start making it from scratch!

I love the Silk Nog also. Mostly because it doesn't make me feel so guilty what with having to watch my chloresterol.

Keep your eggnog... The Mexican Hot Chocolate is one of the best things in the world.
BTW... Did AT ever do a review of blenders?

Food-god Alton Brown just did a segment on eggnog, and suggested saving some of the base from which to make Eggnog ice cream.
Hey, Paul, know anybody with an ice cream maker? ;)

Ibarra hot chocolate is great, but if you ever get to Mexico, buy some local "unbranded" stuff to bring back -- even better. There is also an instant, powdered product with a nun on the package (Saint something, of course . . .) that is THE BEST instant chocolate powder ever -- I'll try to check for the name tonight.
As for eggnog -- make your own, always better!!!

Unbranded powdered stuff from Mexico?
You folks are BRAVE. ;)
But Frank, can you put rum in it?!? :)
Any chocolate connoisseurs with an opinion about Starbuck's Chantico? (I think that's what it's called)
Hey Sara Kate... how 'bout a "Best Hot Chocolate" feature on The Kitchen?

Patrick -- the unbranded stuff is a tablet, like Ibarra. The powder is commercial -- Nestles for all I know!
You can put rum in either -- or tequila.
Hope to see you with rum concoction in your hand tomorrow night!

it's funny, right before i read this yesterday, i was chatting w/a co-worker who's sister is a chef in london
last year the two of them went to oaxaca and bought some chocolate there
apparently in oaxaca (the land of moles!) you can order custom ground chocolates, think custom mixed teas and coffees
you can specify fat content, spice content, chile content
man, it sounds simply freaking divine!!!

I love the box that the Mexican chocolate comes in; that's purdy.

i love the southern comfort egg nog! vanilla spice is my favorite & it is a phenomenal drink to bring to holiday parties-especially if you have some of the liqueor to mix in!
