Look! Two Recycled Fences
From Re-nest: Our site that covers abundant design for green homes

fencefront91908.jpgWe're noticing the little things this week at Re-Nest, like this clever and beautiful fence that reuses scraps of metal. We like ideas that make use of scraps and odds and ends that would otherwise go to waste—or just sit around and get in the way. That's why we like these cork and felt DIY coasters, and the simple twist on an ordinary shoebox that makes it more attractive when reused.

In other news, we've done a little digging into that new Microsoft ad that boasts "I'm A PC... and I design green buildings," and we try to figure out which is better: BPA-free plastic or glass food containers. Links after the jump.

Are you willing to use BPA free plastic? Or do you stick with heavier glass containers?

We love this simple DIY project from Design Sponge... they're a quick afternoon or evening project.

We liked the box almost as much as these shoes... a simple twist made it much more attractive to reuse.

And what's with this crazy-haired guy? And that building? Steph does a bit of digging to find out...

Love the fence. I bet a lot of neighbors would complain about it though, unless you live in a heavily Dwell-subscribing area.

cool looking fence---I guess you could change those metal parts as time passes with new finds. Looks like it might be hard work putting that together. I dont think I would like to see a whole back yard done this way---just part of the fence.

You mean that fence would go over better in a "magazines tell me what to like" neighborhood? I try to like things that aren't necessarily conventional, and I appreciate they've tried to do a neat job of it. It just doesn't look that appealing. It's not just rusty and "mismatched," it looks like it's something you'd see in a junkyard. If you want to get down to it, very few fence styles are interesting to look at, especially if you're blockading the view and I have to be on the other side. If you're going to make that out of metal, it will be more difficult for me to find much I can do with what I don't like about it on my side.

Wow, it's a good thing I don't have any neighbors to complain! I totally love the fence, and think it is a cool way to use otherwise old-n-rusty pieces of metal. It will be perfect for a chicken coop/compost pile hider/outdoor art piece.

I'm in love with that fence. It reminds me of a quilt.

I love that fence too.
I live in fear of a neighbor putting up one of those shiny white plastic fences.
