Oh god, Avec is heaven. I went there with my family for my graduation lunch and it was perfect; provencal, italian and portugese cuisine. Pancetta wrapped dates, the best cevice I have ever had, the hanger steak with daikon, homemade sorbets, all in a perfect atmosphere.
However, I would not say that it is the best restaurant in Chicago. That honor I would give to Lula Cafe (lulacafe.com), hands down. The Slow Food Guide to Chicago called them "slower than slow."
