Sub-Zero PRO 48: A new entry in the home appliance testosterone wars, but this one "conforms to the US Department of Energy's stringent standards for residential use - consuming less energy than a 100 watt light bulb."
Embrio from Bombadier: A beautiful piece of gyroscope vehicle design that might replace our scooter one day.
I just happened to see that Sub-Zero PRO 48 at an open house this weekend and was impressed with it. I just looked up the price: $11 to 12K.

I took more than a cursory look (on the interweb) at the Pro48 and came away disappointed. As much as I like subzeros for their performance and looks there is a problem with them that had not been an issue until our children came along. That of lack of interior space which is especially galling when they are so wide.
We had a 36" subzero 650 with the rod handles (which is my favorite style) and this has much less interior space than much smaller regular (read: not counter depth) fridges. In our rental we have a 36" side by side whirpool and it has over double the interior space in the freezer compartment (fridge compartments are almost identical in capacity). The 650's bottom drawer is way too small. You need to get a 42" side by side subzero to match a regular 36" side by side in freezer capacity while slightly exceeding the fridge capacity.
The pro48 will have similar problems to the 650 due to its multiple drawer design which, due to the need to have thick drawer walls and bottoms, will rob more space. I also dislike the Viking look with the chunky hinges and the Viking style handles. The obvious problems with the glass door are not at issue because you can geet solid doors.
In our new place we are going to replace the 650 with a 48" 695. Too profilgate for the under counter lovers and the quick, highly evolved humans out there (type this into google +quick +highly +evolved site:www.apartmenttherapy.com)? Sorry but we need the capicity and I want that look :p
BTW, when I used to iron my shirts I always used the thick end of the board to cover more ground so can recommend the broad chested man board if you want to splurge.

Having a broad chested man around ALWAYS makes the ironing more pleasant.

I can't wait until they have customized covers for that ironing board. But I could see that turning into a quasi-voodoo thing with some, intentionally leaving the iron on the face too long...

The broadchested man would have to have a gun to my head to make me iron my own shirts again. Dropping them off, and letting them do it at the laundry place is not free, but the human cost of doing it myself is exorbitant. Plus, with the cost of soap and the number of quarters to put into the machine to get things washed and dried really adds up.
Plus, I trust them with the care of my clothes FAR more than I trust myself. The complicated little pictograms on the clothes are as opaque to me as crop circles.

On the Embrio: As I glanced through the photos the first time, I thought it was a fancy new pizza cutter . . .

NO, you are totally right P(too), I did a double take on that when I went to type it. Where did that come from? Maybe it is the seed of a brand new form of travel.
