I have a Ryoba saw (that's the top picture of the two Japanese saws) made by Shark Corporation and not a Japanese carpenter/blacksmith grandmaster, so I dunno if it counts as authentic or not. I do know that it cuts VERY well and I almost never use my other saws anymore.
I put in laminate floor for my condo using the Ryoba saw for all cuts and it wasn't too bad. Arm got sore though. ;)
It cuts very clean and very rapidly, and also on the pull, rather than the push, which I feel makes it easier to control.
It's listed at http://www.sharkcorp.com under the sharksaw group (click the finecut button after clicking the sharksaw logo -- mine is the finecut double). Yeah, the page isn't that pretty, but the saws are great!

Water consumption is gonna go waaaay up with telly in the shower.
So if you're reading this opoponax, that was the saw I was referring to.

Yeah to separate the drawer fronts from the drawer box (because you said that they were glued on I think) if you were going to go down that route.

ah. right.
rubber mallet did the trick nicely, actually. all systems go for paint and new hardware this weekend.
i'm thinking about submitting a before and after slideshow when the project's finally done in a couple weeks.

The ryoba saw was what I was recommending to opoponax in this thread

when I tried to link to it but I see now my link did not lead anywhere useful.
