That tile is the non-conformist and you gotta give him credit for that.

Why are these links surreptitious? They seem pretty obvious to me. I have never understood why these links posts are called Slinks. Would love an explanation!

Ok, that's it. I'm unsubscribing from this RSS. Your RSS feeds are unreadable, un-user friendly, and (in short) a pale, pale shadow of the actual site.
Please feel free to email me if you ever fix your RSS feeds. =(

gretchen = these links are surreptitious because they are links from someone else's site. so they are acknowledging the fact that they are 'borrowing' - hence these are on the web at least twice = surreptitious.
anyhoo - love that chair.

THANK YOU, Gretchen, for voicing a question that's always bugged me, too! In its common use, "surreptitious" means something obtained or achieved by stealth, so I guess they mean to allude to the borrowed nature of the links -- but since the whole process of link re-posting seems quite candid and open, it doesn't really apply here. I think the mistake might be in thinking that it means "repeated" because of the "-rep" in the word, as Angelune's comment suggests? Anyway, it doesn't take away from the value of the feature, which is always full of great stuff, but still, I'm glad to see I wasn't alone in wondering! OK, out of English major and back to AT fan/lurker mode :)

The tile would drive me nuts - okay more nuts. It would need to be fixed or at the very least covered - a big bandaid perhaps.

I thought I was just being obtuse, when I wondered why the Slinks were called "surreptitious". Now it all makes sense. :)

Hilarious that the "oops" link was broken.
I believe "surreptitious" due to the fact that the parties being linked to might not have approved the link... so, it's candid on *this* side of the link, but not necessarily on the other...

now all Twan needs to do is put a solar panel, peltier junction and thermal wind generator in an Edison bulb.
