• This time in gold:
Ghost Antler by Erich Ginder for Fluke.
• We found AT:Chicago's post
Google Decorator: The Most Beautiful Room hilarious.
• We love this luscious turned wood pedestal table from
Brocade Home.
• The
Peaceful Progression Wake Up Clock wakes you not with a mew, not a roar. But what about its looks?
I had that clock about 10 years ago, but I think I bought it at Target. I don't think the gradual wake-up feature really worked for me. And that aromatherapy part of it? Icky.

I think AT should do the Google Decorator every week until you run out of adjectives -- you could start with "most trendy", "most modern", "most sexy", "most fabulous", etc. Then we could have someone Photoshop them into a room and have a Smallest Coolest Virtual Googled Decorator Contest.

Ditto!! That would be hysterical!!!
I have no idea how that gradual wake up would work in my house - we don't black out the sunlight and don't get up until 6:30/7 -so in the summer it's already sunny when we wake up. The gradual noise probably wouldn't wake me up either, to be honest. I'd incorporate it into my dreams, as I do everything else. I sleep like a dead log.

I too sleep like a dead log. That clock looks like a robot. If I still don't wake up with its beeping, it'll have to walk over and pull me off the bed.

Boy, does that clock look like a pile of junk. I think the designer tried to give it an art deco look, but that was a mistake.

Man that is one ugly clock! I had a "wake you up gradually" type clocks complete with fake "sunrise" and robot-bird noises. Drove me crazy! Would also love to see more Google Decorator!

That thing looks anything but peaceful. I hate being blasted out of bed by loud alarms, so I got a Now & Zen clock that I love, (http://www.now-zen.com/) and it looks much better. The only problem is that sometimes before the gentle waking process starts, a car alarm goes off directly under my window....

yeesh! greer, you've given them too much credit. That thing wasn't designed by a designer, take my word for it. Looks like it was cobbled together from whatever parts they had lying around. That hurts me deeply.

For all the Design (with a capital D) going on, why is it still so hard to find well designed (which means not only pretty but also ergonomic and well engineered) affordable everyday objects like alarm clock/radios and cordless phones?
I spent last weekend searching the Web for something in which to hide the CD clock radio in my bedroom when I have guests (I live in a loft). And the weekend before that for an acceptable phone with an answering machine that gets more than 3 stars on Amazon. Which came after the hunt for a... you get the idea.
This clock manages to be BOTH hideous and useless.

It also smells bad. It's a weird combination of off-gassing plastic and the "aromatherapy" beads that are supposed to help wake you up. I felt like I surely would wake up...sick. The "lid" for the section where the beads go is also flimsy and falls off easily. Good concept, horrible design. Why do manufacturers think we want EVERYTHING to have a smell?
