apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

SCC 2005: Marlon's Green Pad

(This blast from the past is a gem and we just had to repost it after seeing Bblessing. This is a copy. Original post is here.)

(Note: Marlon's apartment is extraordinary but over our size limit of 500 sq/ft)

Name: Marlon
Location: Chelsea
Size: 650 square feet
Type: One Bedroom

The Pitch:

I always loved vintage furniture but have never enjoyed how a house can get to vintage looking or even modern looking so I went for a mix of stuff but a theme of color. I found all my furniture second-hand and have refurbished and reupholstered it myself. Art and design are my passion. The closet is my office and the bedroom is the gallery. The apartments whole theme can be changed just by changing the wall color. Thanks, I hope you like it. Marlon

I dig it! The white-on-gree color scheme really pops.

I noticed Marlon has joined the commentators on Small Space Big Style in some recent episodes. I'm curious if he's done anything new with his apartment since this contest.

I was wondering if that was "our" Marlon. I know he looked like him but I wasn't 100% sure. Good for him. I always liked what he did with his place as can be seen in the original thread.

Haha, I remember the first time this was posted. The comments were great.

i agree, stephanie. the original post is by far my favorite blog brawl on AT, followed closely by the university of kentucky baby room post.

Ya know what's funny?
A lot of us met Paul a few days later and found him to be the opposite of the curmudgeonly persona that we thought personified him on these pages and all was well in our AT world.

If you think that was a good blog brawl (and I'm only going from memory here) then you should see the Frank fish tank entry from the Frank that did post in Marlon's thread.

Wow, the brawls here used to be more literate and articulate than they've been lately.

I want to stay in this as a hotel. I want to reproduce it at a scale of 1:18 or smaller. I want to know people who live like this because it would be boring only to know people who live like me.

Oh man I love it! Especially the living room. Those couches looks amazing! The only thing that sorta offs me is the TV stand/foot stool. Rest is awesome!

Hey Paul, I hear ya.
I was bummed when I thought I couldn't get web access on my crackberry in Disney World but when I did get it I was even more bummed out when I found that typing the responses was too much of a pain to do. There were a lot of posts I wanted to respond to but couldn't. For example, the thru wall a/c post which I did try to but lost the response so gave up.

BTW mod*mom when Marlon's place was featured on SSBS the guns were nowhere to be seen. I think we also found out that all he had in his kitchen cabinets were linens and towels and in his fridge just Cristal and Twinkies.

I must be the only person on here who thinks this is HIDEOUS.

That being said- thank all that's holy for the right to like whatever and live however you please. And I will give some credit where credit is due for Marlon not just living the " DWR/Crate and Barrel/West Elm catalogue cutout" lifestyle
