Name: Ilene K.
Location: New York City
Size: 450 square feet 1 bedroom apartment (5th floor walkup)
Favorite resource:
Elle Décor and spending a lot of time poking through furniture shops in NYC looking for each individual piece.
What inspired you?
The big windows, high ceilings and a great location. I wanted the apartment to be a calm, livable, “spacious” apartment in spite of its small size.

I wish I could see a view in from the front door with the kitchen and everything....maybe with the additional photos?
Cool windows! cool bed! If I could comment on anything, I'd say I'd like to see a really simple arrangement of vanilla pillar candles or something on the mantle...it's kind of busy, which isn't keeping with the calm simplicity of the rest of the place (something I've never personally been able to achieve!).
tasteful and pleasant
and I bet the art is especially nice in person
thanks for letting us in!
Ah! These pictures makes me nostalgic for those wonderful, old, fold-completely-into-the-window-frame shutters I had in my old walk-up on East 50th St. until about a year ago.
The shutters are beautiful! I miss mine. The apartment seems like a lovely, simple space.
I'm curious about the photograph (or is it a painting?) above the fireplace. Who made it?

... but it's just the rules. No list of the entries.
I agree with MaxMoritz - When I couldn't find any of the entries, I thought "Oh it's just ME." So, where ARE they?! Thanks.

I love your headboard! Where is it from?
Do I see a feline on the couch? ;)! Extra points for taking care of an animal.
Wow - good catch Jeffery. I almost missed the kitty and my eye usually goes straight to them.
any entries will kitties will get extra points from me :)
This is Ilene. Thank you for the nice comments. To answer the questions:
1) The artwork over the fireplace is photo by Susan Daboll. She shows at KerriganCampbell, a gallery in NY. Not super expensive and she does a lot of interesting work.
2) That is a cat. His name is Luc. I wondered where he went when I took the pictures.
3) I agree on the mantle being cluttered. It's hard to live in a small apartment. I'll clear it off if I make the finals and take more pictures.
Thank you for your reply, and good luck!
I like the cat. More pictures of the cat.
The windows in the living room look great. The head board is very cool too.
Your apartment looks beautiful. I enjoyed seeing it in the photo although I'd rather be there having a glass of wine with you and Luc. The pictures look wonderful and of course the windows are great.
Nice but not enough pics
Fabulous chic! Streamlined and focused quality. Is that a mobile? I love them. The windows / shutters are awesome. Thanks for sharing - loved the "peak". - Diana
The apartment is fabulous. Your use of space, color and lighting is well thought out and very attractive. Thanks so much for your inspiration and design creativity. I will apply it to my current location.
PS the kitty is too cute.

It is a little jarring, the contrast between the architectural features and the furniture. Not sure I know what to suggest as a transition, though.
whoa almost better than marc's place but you just cant beet marc's. i still liked it though it was kool. i liked how things mached with white in your bedroom i think that thing is. lol *cough marc's is the best cough cough*
You've done a fantastic job of decorating and making a small apartment look spacious. The window treatments are elegant, and the dining area is very enticing for intimate entertaining.
If I have to pick a nit, I would lower the picture above the mantle, Put the plantws in attractive cache pots in the same color scheme but perhaps diffent sizes so that the terra cotta pots aren't visible. Clear out the rest of the stuff but put large pillar candles in the fireplace. The boxes don't work for me, although if you must use that space for storage use pewter or silver boxes that would reflect some light and echo the metal on table legs.
Don't like it, but love the headboard.
I have purchased a 602 sq ft condo. Moving day is Jan 2008. Starting to plan. I have noticed that clear table tops make a space look bigger, less cluttered... Love the headboard. Good job!
