"Aloha AT!
Here's my place!
I've attached a squarefootage layout...I don't know how to do the math, but as you can probably tell, it's not a lot of space. My biggest challenge was to figure out how to suspend lights (I have a lot of asian rice paper lamps), mirrors and photos to personalize the space because the walls are concrete and I am only renting. That means no paint at all either....
The bed area has IKEA mirrors above it to help with the illusion of more space and the futon doubles as my bed and a sofa for entertaining. I was even able to fit in two rounded wicker chairs for additional seating.
And to hide the ugly jealousies -- Readyblinds from Home Depot.
The TV chest is a chinese cabinet that my boyfriend built and my desk was built by him as well (using a Crate & Barrel leaning shelf as inspiration).
My kitchen area is a bit odd. The cabinet on the wall was there when I moved in, so I needed to work around it. I added color by staggering two painted wooden panels in a yummy orange color. I use a lot of white to balance off the strong orange: hanging rice paper lamp, white paper star and some green japanese floor pillows are stacked for both display and additional seating when necessary.
I love coming home to my place. It's a warm and inviting sanctuary hidden within a cold, concrete complex.
Thanks for letting me show my place to you.
Mahalo!"

Wow! That is TINY!
Wowza! I would have been a better person if I'd had that apartment when I was 20-something.
this is such a cute space and kudos for making what you got work for you-
Cute and warm and perfect for Hawaii.
You have really maximized the space. It's very warm and inviting.
Wow, you did maximize that space! I'm impressed! Great job. Nice idea to paint the panels and slide them in, rather than painting the walls.
Maxwell -- not to nitpick, but: Hawaii is REALLY far east of the Mississippi!!! (follow link to all entries . . .) LOL!
The colors and arrangement of furniture are very well done. The homemade desk and chest are amazing!
Where do you keep your clothes and other stuff?
where do you put your clothes?
reminds me of my old dorm room, but tidyer!
Where did you get the the circular latch for the Asian cabinet? I have been looking for one so I can build my own cabinet for awhile now. Thank you!
Tiny, but it has everything she needs! It's really great...
Oh -- and for everyone who missed it, she has a closet -- take a look at the groundplan...
I love this tiny place. The red is luscious, its neat, you seem to have everything you need, and if I lived in Hawaii I'd be at the beach most the time anyway. Lovely. Congratulations on using a great palette and on your keen sense of editing.
I'll bet that living in Hawaii does cause lots of people to feel ugly jealousies! (I'm guessing you mean jalousies ;-).
Hi Cheyne,
Simplicity!!! Great job on your cute and cozy space.
Adorable. Very inviting oasis.
Love the desk. What a great idea.
So is there a frigging winner of this contest yet??
Wow. And I bitch about the size of my place?
I want a boyfriend who builds stuff for me like that!
Thanks for all the great comments! It is a cute place to come back to. To answer some of your questions:
I keep my clothes in my hall closet, which is also where the water heater is. A very ugly space filled with fashionable clothes :)
The circular metal plates on the chinese cabinet are ones my boyfriend bought on ebay. I'll find out from where and will send to Maxwell for future reference.
Thanks again everyone!
