(We had a great deal of entries that didn't make the cut last month, BUT which deserve to be seen. Matt's came in late and is a part of a bigger house, but it rocks.)

What inspired me?
"I first became interested in interior design when I stumbled across my mother's furniture magazines. What caught my attention most was DWR. I enjoyed the classic pieces in the catalog and reading the short bios of the designers. That springboarded into wanting to know everything I could about furniture design!
What is my favorite resource?
Mocoloco, of course!
A good design tip:
Keep it simple, don't try to overthink things and don't be afraid to use that space! Get that couch off the wall!

Love the bed - the proportions are perfect! If you don't mind, where is it from?
Ikea Malm in oak veneer I believe
Yes, it's the Ikea Malm. In birch veneer, actually.
And if you don't mind- where did you get the sculpture on the wall- very cool
Handsome apartment. I like the one red(ish) chair, and that you were able to use that sage green without making it look anything like Resto. Hardware. Good use of color, and a very cool wall-lamp-art-thing by the chairs.
I might put a taller lamp in the LR (or that Arco floor lamp? And you must not read in bed much...
Jenna- you can get a sculputre similar at wingard-

a couple of people walking by my desk commented on what a nice apartment - wait, Fargo, ND?
Great side table by the bed, with builtin book holder, nice. I want one of those
TV in front of the window? come on. Got to be a better way. Not to crazy about the cd display. Maybe if they were all put in some kind of lower shelf display complete with the tv on top. perhaps the tube is a little to large for the scale of the room.
I agree that the cd's are a bit jarring - as they look like they are on display rather than being stored. However, I have a similar problem in my own living room. I think a low, shallow bookcase with dividers would do the trick (maybe peter's design from yesterday). I want doors for mine.
also - this place needs 'life' - some flowers & plants. a big potted tree in the living room would make a difference, or a bowl of apples on the coffee table.
Very chic! The effect is cozy (wonderful color scheme for the colder northern light) with remarkably few actual items -- they're just so aptly chosen and placed.
(The CDs don't bother me, as I suspect they sort of *are* on display as well as being stored.)
Very cool. Nice choices all around.
Hey Jon, thanks for the Wingard info. I'm looking for wall art. Do you have any more suggestions? Much obliged
I didn't even notice the CDs/DVDs until someone pointed them out. God forbid someone should SEE your media--gasp! They're actually quite neat. Well done..like your place. Thanks for sharing.
hey Lourdes-
what kind of wall art are you looking for? sculptural? or paintings? or...?
Nice lighting. Please lose the "Broadway" sign. Otherwise, it's very well done. I'm sure you'll find a solution for your CD problem. I'm contemplating an iPod--can't take the mess anymore.
This apartment is gorgeous! Very tasteful and well-appointed.
I do agree with the above CD comment, we had the same problem but easily solved it by transferring all of our music onto the laptop and just playing it through our speaker system. We then took our favourite album art and made a huge collage in an oversized poster frame so we could still enjoy the covers.
Also- the bedroom wall sculpture is fabulous. Is it custom or did you buy it somewhere? I'd love to find something similar. Any tips are appreciated.

Jon,
Sculptural (maybe metal) in the contemporary vein, but not ultra-contempo. Thx for any tips you can offer.
P.S. liked your blogspot :)
Living large in Fargo, ND!! How cool, what's it like living there? Is there anything fun to do? What's nightlife like? What kind of job do you have? You have lots of nice "stuff".
Ha! You all actually thought those were CDs? Look a littlle harder, those are DVD cases...
I agree with the comment about the TV blocking the window. That's a shame to do that. The media in question does indeed appear to be DVDs. Judging by the nicely framed "Resevoir Dogs" art on the wall and the amount of DVDs, I'd say we have a real movie buff here, so they're proud to show off their DVD collection. That's alright.
Wonderful place. I don't have any useful suggestions, except maybe to take down the Broadway sign. It kind of interferes with the roomÂ’s tact. I think the dvd stands compliment one another, and look nice together.
Everything's so beautifully thought out! Sort of has the cerebral placements of a chess board, if that makes sense. I think the DVD stands work well where they are, if a person wants his DVDs to be a subject in the room, and why not? Love what Tiffany said about the Broadway sign interfering with the room's tact--and agree.
Matt's place comes across as a real Night-time Space; must be those long, dark, Fargo winters. As such, it looks like a great place to cozy in.
Hey, just wondering where this apartment is located at??? I live in Fargo also. Just curious!
Wow, didn't expect so many comments! I forgot to check back to the site! Sorry Folks!
Yes the sculpture is from http://www.wingardhome.com/
Margaret - You'd be surprised. Fargo is on the come up! Downtown is being completely renovated and actually becoming quite the hip hot spot.
Fritz - The table next to my bed is Offi, I got mine at Room & Board
Yes, it is a shame to put the TV in front of the window. At the time, I felt we had tried everything with the arrangement, and what we came to made the most sense. It would help if you could see the whole room. :) We definitely wanted to avoid placing it square with the room, as that can be so boring. And with a building over a hundred years old, it isn't exactly technologically friendly. It was the easiest place to hide the wires, access the cable, and get our internet access! There's a porch out there anyway, so it's not exactly a view you're missin out on. hehe.
The "CD's" are actually DVD's. Haha. I'm quite a bit into movies. I'm currently editing some independent short films and documentaries right now aside from my full time job as an Art Director for a marketing company. That's actually not even all of the DVD's. I just started running out of places to put them!
The Broadway sign was just kinda thrown up there one day when I first moved in. It gets some good comments though. As the street behind the window is in fact, Broadway.
Yes, I do need life in the apartment! I keep trying, but I'm a 22 year old party guy that sucks at keeping things like that alive! Haha... I actually ended up getting some fake stuff. It's ok. :)
Heidi - The place is located in the Aggie apartments on Broadway & 7th Ave N. It is the building with big porches next to MeritCare.
Thanks for the comments!

very cool apartment and at age 22, no less! love the whole feel of it, and i think the DVDs show your personality, even if they seem like they are on 'display.' i think the broadway sign is kind of cool, since it is one of the only really quirky seemingly out of place things in your apartment, which makes it a great conversation piece (and even cooler that it broadway is outside that window). enjoy your fabulous place! i'm hoping mine turns out half as cozy, but stylish, as yours!
Thanks, Sunni!

It's time to leave Fargo and move to the big city. Hey, Chicago's close and it's the most beautiful city in the world!

Ha! Thanks Tony!
When was the last time you were in Fargo? It's great here! Funny you mentioned it though. I went to Chicago this summer to scope it out and possibly move. Don't think it's gonna happen, although I do love the city and visit quite often.

The apartment looks great!
Does anyone know if he used a flat or semi-glass/egg-shell paint for his walls?
On that note, what do people suggest when painting bright colors?

Great looking place. Where did you get the small DVD towers from?
Thanks.

Harold - I used Scherwin Williams Superpaint Satin. I personally like my paint really flat, but it's hard to get some of the bold colors without stepping up to Satin.
I got the towers from a place in town called Media Play, which I think is out of business now. If you want 'em, you can have 'em. I don't use them anymore. We're all digital now.
