It might also be nice to hear what people would like to have from DWR to complete the look...?

Can you really do an apartment justice with only three pics?!

I'm counting down until the entries are posted....

I think my very small apt. is super cool, but I am A) broke and B) not a professional designer, architect, or person with artistic ability. I think I have done a good job with what I have, but my place could never compete with that of someone who designs things for a living, or who can afford to hire such a person. Can there be different categories, based on different levels of resources? Like maybe high-budget/low-budget, or pros/amateurs. Or first-ever projects/people who repaint every week. Or something...

    mh--
I think the finalists last year were complete mixture of ALL the categories you describe, so go ahead and enter!

    a,
You can try Smart Draw for creating Floor Plans.

    Hope this helps.

    mh,
you should totally enter in the contest, what do you have to lose? :-)

I'm kinda with mh on this...entering contests, especially "smallest coolest" seems scary to me. I don't know if my skin is thick enough!

Oh, and also, renter/owner could be another category, if we were doing categories.

mh - you should definitely enter. Like you, I'm more or less broke. A lot of my stuff is thrift store finds, or crazy crazy sales. Even my art is a bargain from ebay. I don't do interior design or anything even related. The most expensive item I own is a $300 couch.

Your place is probably a reflection of you, and to me, that's what makes it cool. That's why I love having a window into other people's places through the pics and details posted here. It's like being a voyeur without being creepy! What fun!

I know what you mean about interior designers and architects. I see some of the work they do on their places (posted here, that is), and my jaw drops. Oh, what I wouldn't give for that sort of talent! (and money!)

I'm so excited about this contest. AT is addictive!

What size pics should I attach with my entry?

Also, I can't remember if entries list whether they're rentals or owned, but I hope that info is included. I love seeing what other renters have done because I'm a renter... no tearing own walls or building in all sorts of craziness for me.

    mh,
Part of the fun of this contest last year was simply seeing the wide variety of really cool ideas people used in their small apartments regardless of talent or money or design training. Sure it would be great to win and have everyone rave about your place, but even if you don't it doesn't mean your apartment doesn't make you happy. If you think you did a good job by all means enter and share with us. Yeah a few people can be rather harsh with their comments, but we usually try to be constructive when we disagree with your choices.

Me? I'm still working on decluttering and aiming for next year's contest if there is one.

mh - I AM an interior designer (more years than I can remember) and I don't think my place is good enough for the contest. I, too, think it's a pretty great apt. but like Christine, I don't think my skin is think enough. After reading so many put-downs for the other contests lately I don't think I could take it if my place got slammed. P2 was here and said I should enter but I'm going to wait until next year. March 13th is too soon to get the place looking contest ready.

Looking forward to the spectacle that is the SCA contest.

My apt. is around 205 square feet but alack, I will not be entering the contest, because 'alack' any decorative/organizational ability. I'm just not good at that sort of thing, even though I like this website. But I enjoy seeing the efforts of the talented people who live in this boig and have little space to work with.

    Yay, SCA!

god, i should enter. just to give people the opportunity to sharpen their claws.

do we need to have furniture in our apartments to enter?

posted by pphillipp on 2006-03-02 11:02:02

anne, you're an interior designer? really?

should I then take your previous "impressive!delighted to see a professional here" remark as an attempt at sarcasm?
    or mark of occupational disease?
